Mounting a Fenix 7 to an IPad Pro

Is there any way at all to connect a Fenix 7 to an IPad Pro for the purpose of dropping .FIT files into the NEWFILES folder?
Currently I do this on my PC but it would be handy if I could create courses and load them onto my Fenix on the go with this method.

  • Perhaps there is a much easier way, but I try to explain my way:

I have for example a fit file saved in the documents folder on my iPad. If I open documents, tap on the fit file, it offers me: open in another app. If I tab on open in another app, the installed komoot app is offered (for example). I open in komoot and save it there. I import it via the komoot app on my F7x Should work with different apps, too. Via komoot app on my F7x, I can start it directly or I store it offline. It’s available via courses.

Easier for me: I create courses with the komoot app on my iPad and import them via komoot app on my F7x.

Btw: you can also create courses with gcm on your iPad Pro  and send them to your F7. Or have I missed something and you want to do something else?

  • Thanks.
The routes we use are mostly mountains and GCM is absolute rubbish for that!

I use plotaroute and create course points that appear in the up ahead function on my 7X. I then drag those FIT files into the NEWFILES folder.
I did look at Komoot but it doesn’t let you create your own route, it seems to want to do it for you. That said, creating in Plotaroute, saving as a FIT file and then importing to Komoot could be an option if it works?

  • I was pointed to an alternative method that relies simply on opening the .fit file in GCM. So, if you have GCM running on your iPad/iPhone you can download the file from Plotaroute to your iPad/iPhone. Then, find the file and select it, click on the Share icon, Select Garmin Connect and the file will open.
