Bad hiking distance (fenix 7)

I've done a couple hikes now and I've noticed that the hiking distance is off, loaded a 9,5km gpx and the watch only reported 8,3km. It was a flat hike so no elevation or 3d consideration to take into consideration.

My wife her vivoactice reported a nice 9,5km, similar as the gpx and similar to the waypoint route provided by local guide.

My GPS setting at e on the dual band and show nice tracking,m, no diviations at all.

Is this a known issue? Can I do something to fix it?

  • I have the same problem with my new 7SS

    this is aggravating !

    anyone with any ideas?

should i set the recording for every second ?

  • Would you post a link to the activity so we can take a look? You can also compare your track and your wife's in Garmin Connect interweb. Add your wife as a Connection. Open her activity from your account. Click the small cog in the top left and select compare.

You'll then see a list of your activities below hers which will be highlighted.

Choose yours - it will then become highlighted as well. Select to Compare 2 of 4

And look at the combined data. You might be able to see where the problem is.

Check your settings are the same as hers, particularly auto pause if selected.

should i set the recording for every second ?

This will only improve the display of the track and should not affect any distance or pace. However, there's no reason not to have it enabled these days as the need to save space by having smaller activity files is no longer an issue.

  • Is there a tunnel or so anthing where you have no Signal?
