HRV missing from Health Snapshot?

I've used the Health Snapshot App about ten times now. Sometimes it won't show my HRV. Only blood oxygen, stress score, heart rate and breathing. Sometimes I get the HRV. Is there a logical explanation to this or is it a bug?

  • Had the same thing happen on two occasions.

When I tried a second reading on the same occasions (right after the failures), the HRV seem to work correctly?

So my guess would be that it just didn't read well and it's not a bug?

  • I missed the HRV from health snapshot if I use chest strap. But it's strange, because HRV stress app request chest strap and health snapshot can read HRV without chest strap. Next thing, why two separate apps that measure HRV? HRV stress can be store with health snapshot IMHO. Or what is the difference between HRV from health snapshot and HRV stress app?

  • Happened to me, hit it or miss.  HRV is the most difficult metric to capture as any movement will cause problems.

  • There is definitely something wrong with this.  As others have reported, my Fenix 7X health snapshots do not record HRV or pulse ox.  Manual pulse ox works fine, but it does not get saved in the health snapshots.  In addition, when I look at historical snapshots, most of them are missing from the list. I did several snapshots, they were saved "successfully" but are not in the list of previous snapshots.

As someone else reported for sync with training peaks, these data are missing when syncing Health data to Intervals.icu.

I am not inclined to do a hard reset as I would presumably have to reconfigure everything on the watch, and I'm not yet convinced this is what is needed.

I also noticed that on Garmin Connect web, if I go to the menu and pick Health Snapshot, I get an error that there is no page.

  • It's very bizarre. It's either stress, HRV or SpO that's always missing. Never have I been able to get a 'perfect' score. Makes me very frustrated. Garmin has clearly hit amiss on this feature.

    Same here

  • Have the same issue. External HRM is enabled and stress could be measured but HRV in health snapshot not. Interesting after a shutdown if I put off the external hrm I get a HRV but no spox.

  • I have currently only about a dozen of health snapshots, so not a big sample for making any conclusions, but perhaps there could be a clue anyway. Only at one of them, the HRV is missing. When I compare the individual snapshots, the one with the missing HRV differs from others especially in the red HR graph. In this case the HR varied much more, than in the other cases, and there is no flatter part in it. It varied between 61 to 84 bpm (see below). In all the other cases, where the HRV was detected, the variation was considerably smaller, and there were also some flatter parts without so many bumps.

So perhaps, at the failed attempt, I was moving too much around (or shortly beforehand), and the watch rejected the HRV measurement because it was considered unreliable, or was out of range.

Not sure whether it is really the true reason, but perhaps worth of looking at. Also try doing the snapshot after at least 30 minutes of good rest, and not moving at all during the test.

  • Hi,

a few days before I had a brand new Venu 2 plus for testing and it worked as expected. And to measure HRV there is no need for rest, some athletes measure hrv during a ride or run. SPO seems difficult to measure and you have to sit or stand still.

I think it's the firmware of the Fenix 7. As I said with the venu everything works as expected. I have Version 7.35.
