Fenix 7 Solar vs. FR 745: Display contrast bad

The display of the Fenix 7 is not completely black (where it is supposed to be black of course) the contrast is, at least in comparison with the FR 745, simply bad.

Anyone experienced the same?

Is it different with the Standard or Sapphire edition or do I need to get an S or X (or a different watch)?

  • I would also prefer a F7 version with the same Gorilla Glass DX as the 6pro but it's also possible to get perfect glare-free photos of the f7ss display. It just depends on the light source and the angle.

  • Initially when I got the 7X I too thought the black fidelity wasn’t as good as my 6X Pro Solar so I whipped out the 6X and did loads of comparisons from various angles and lighting; in the end I could hardly tell any difference side by side - maybe the 7X was a little more reflective in a bright environment but it was pretty hard to tell apart and certainly nothing to lose any sleep over.

I’m just really enjoying the watch. Garmin have refined/evolved the Fenix to such a great product now; I tested a walk to work with tall buildings and the 7X left my 6X for dead using the ‘All Systems’ setting. I’m also loving the touch screen implementation (more then I thought I would) and the refinements to the UI; also as many have said, the torch is surprisingly useful!

  • I just received a Fenix 7s Sapphire after having the Enduro (Power Glass). Both screens were essentially identical for me in real life purposes when compared, especially indoors. The 7s font also looked a little cleaner (maybe due to smaller screen) than the Enduro. That said, a 51mm watch is easier to read when jogging / moving and buttons on a big watch are easier to operate with gloves. The buttons on the 7s, however, feel better overall to me.

Honestly, was kinda worried due to the complaints going around about blue-ish tint (sapphire is naturally this tint, plus the suggestion that the touchscreen causes glare), but I am super happy. Overall, incredibly happy with the watch so far, almost don't deserve it...

  • Can you post some photos of both watches? i have Enduro and 7x ss - there is huge difference in screens.

  • Wish I had colorful, cleaner, indicative photos, but these I snapped quickly before selling the Enduro (sorry!). This was backlight on, minimum brightness.

I've been wondering if, because sapphire comes in different hues as a gem (versus probably more refined glass), is it possible people are just always going to get varied Sapphire screens? Mine doesn't seem very blue at all compared to what some peoples' photos seem to indicate.

I had the flashlight and various screens pulled up. Honestly, everything looked as good or better on the Sapphire and I was quite happy with the Enduro.

  • In most angles without backlight my F7x is worst than Enduro. It must be combination of touchscreen layer and Sapphire glass.

  • I do see more reflection in your sapphire 7x. Mine seemed to come across as being more similar and as far as using it with backlight, I have noticed no issue.

I am hoping the added toughness and comfort will be worth it in the long run.

I am super happy so far. Both are great watches and pieces of tech. Best wishes with yours.

  • I never thought I'm going to ask this questions, but please tell me name of this watch face.

    1. This is the 7s Solar vs the 7s Sapphire Solar  (before I returned the 7s Solar). 7s Solar has the green band.  I found that there is definitely more glare from the sapphire. However, it depends on the angle it is being held at and amount of light available. In low light, the two are virtually the same in clarity. It is a small price to pay for the greater durability, reliable GPS and increased storage on the 7s Solar Sapphire. Weirdly, I preferred the styling of the 7s Solar with the shiny red start button surround.
