Thinking about upgrading

I currently have a Fenix 3HR that I wear daily. I was waiting for the 7 to come out before I decided if I wanted to upgrade. I had considered an apple watch (yes I know it is a different device with a different intended use) that being said It would probably still work for me. I do like my garmin and I don't like square watches. I also like that my sapphire screen on my fenix has taken a beating and still doesn't have a scratch on it. Looking at the garmin line up the epix 2nd gen looks like a good choice too.  I was all set to decide to buy the epix until I saw the flashlight on the fenix. I have wanted that feature probably once per night for the past 4 years or so. I know the epix has the screen flashlight, but I don't think that will work as good as for my needs. I do really like the epix screen resolution a lot better then the fenix. and I think if the epix had the flashlight it would be an easy choice for me. So coming from a fenix 3hr, what makes the most since? I don't have to have the long battery life of the fenix, the epix would be fine. I have never been happy with the screen resolution on my hr though. is the 7 a huge step up even though it falls behind the epix? I have watched a ton of videos, but looking for more feedback from someone going from an 3hr to either the 7x or epix. thanks

    lol thanks, I have the one on my phone, but a lot of times my hands are full and the option to have the flashlight always with me like the camera on my phone, is hard to overlook.

    If price isn't a huge concern, the 7X certainly is a fantastic watch. I've only had mine a week, and I've used the flashlight at least once every single night so far. I totally thought it was a gimmick at first, but Garmin knocked the ball out of the park with this idea, it's way more useful than I thought it would be.

    Oh, and I guess the other features on it are pretty cool too Joy

    As far as screen resolution goes, ya the 7X is a pretty big step up from 3HR:

    3HR is 218x218 1.2"

    7X is 280x280 1.4"

    thanks for the help. I keep trying to decide what feature I want more, better screen or flashlight. For me also the epix is a smaller screen and I don't really want to go smaller....

    Sounds like you want the Fenix.

    I got the Epix coming from the Fenix 3 (non HR) and both would definitely be an upgrade! Just need to figure out if you prefer better screen all day or having that flash light once a night with your usage (assuming battery is not an issue per your original post)

    The good news is you can't really go wrong either way.

    yeah I am kind of leaning that way I think. I am just hoping the screen resolution on the 7 is a big enough step up to keep me happy. When I got my fenix 3hr I also bought a Samsung watch at the same time. I don't remember the model. I liked the Samsung a lot, but the waterproof rating and durability was not there for me. I don't want to have to take my watch off when I go rafting or hiking ect. now both apple and Samsung are more durable then they were at that time, but I want to stick with garmin. I did like the watch faces on the Samsung though
