Unhappy owner of Fenix 7

I disappointed from display quality. It feels like display covered with red-brown film compare to my old Chronos. Almost can’t read time in room light. Pulse OXY read 92-91 % constantly when my real number is 98%. Can’t use it as acclimatize indicator for high altitude. Background light turned on by itself , I switched it OFF for everything.  Not checked yet tracking quality, HRM quality during activities.

  • After 100% charge battery estimate 24 days at the moment. When I start use gps, estimate should reduced. This 7x, titanium, sapphire with rubber band 8g lighter compare to my chronos with rubber band. It feels more comfortable on wrist. Dimensions of both watches about the same, but display is much bigger.

  • IMHO Garmin could have avoided at least the bad impact of the solar panel by avoiding covering the screen with it, just keeping only the outside ring. As I understood, the screen covering part has only 7% efficiency, and granded it's 7% over a big surface but probably the contribution of this part of the panel to the solar functionality is not that impacting, while it is worsening the glass transparency by... 7%, I guess Slight smile

  • thanks Sergey. I will get Fenix 7X. Hear you about the screen dullness but there is no other alternative imho. I actually remember you (garmin forums) from the times we bought Chronos maybe because we probably speak the same language :)

  • There is obviously a very reflective screen protector on the F7. So your photo for comparison does not make any sense...

EDIT: Looks like i was wrong and it indeed looks like that without screen protector. Sorry for my premature statement.

  • This is interesting magnification. If you have same watch and make same image you’ll find that you have same “screen protector”. I did not see it before. Question, is this infamous touchscreen layer? If not , Can we remove it?

  • There is obviously a very reflective screen protector on the F7

It's not so obvious to me. I don't have an F7, but on my F6 the glass has a distinct slope near the edge, cleary perceptible with a fingernail, or when viewing magnified, and it reflects light at a different angle, giving a false impression that there might be another layer on the glass, while in fact there isn't any. To put it simpy: Depending on the light source direction, I see the same phenomenon on my F6, and I do not have (and never had) any additional screen protectors.

  • I have a Fenix 7X Sapphire, and it has the same effect. Makes it very hard to read quickly if the light is not optimal. Quite disappointing for such an expensive watch. I'll sell it and wait until the non-sapphire models appear in local stores, to check if those are easier to read.

  • I second this, I don't think garmin would add any screen protectors without making it clear, and surely not the touch layer on top of the screen which could be damaged at first knock on a door knob... the image does look weird though, as the lateral part of the lens after the sharp edge seems more transparent that the "user facing" surface... I'd like to see one live but apparently no physical shop has one here around Slight smile

  • When you find one in a local shop, make sure to ask to see it in outdoor lighting. Indoors, the backlight is strong enough (at least on 50%-80% setting) to compensate for the dull screen and the reflections. Outdoors, on a typical grey winter day with full cloud cover, I found it very hard to read. The reflections make it necessary to find the perfect viewing angle, and the backlight is not strong enough. Compared to my trusty FR 245, which is perfectly readable under all circumstances, it's a night and day difference.

  • the lateral part of the lens after the sharp edge seems more transparent that the "user facing" surface

It's not more transparent. It just reflects light at different angle. With some dexterity you can achieve such a light angle, that the opposite effect will be visible, i.e. less reflective front face, and more reflective edges.
