Wrong altitude calibration before start an activity

Good evening, I noticed this identical problem also in the Garmin Fenix 6X Pro. Maybe some of you have a solution or will be able to explain to me how to correct it.

Before starting my activity, the altimeter a few times inserts me the value that I had previously manually calibrated at home.

Obviously my activity was away from home. Today entered me at 314m (my altitude at home), when in fact I was at 1.460m.

Yesterday, however, still in the same area, immediately recognized the correct altitude.

During both activities, he still behaved perfectly, so the problem is only the initial calibration.

Automatic altimeter calibration was on in both cases.

Do a manual calibration at the start of your run, before you select the activity and start the run.

Maybe I would like to use self-calibration without having to do it manually?

I have set my auto calibration to nightly (but use no bt/phone/gcm connection over night).

If I start a navigation, it offers me this screen:

If the 3m are not ok or I don’t know it, I press the down button for recalibration:

I have 3 options now:

manually calibration

use DEM

use GPS

Yours is definitely a solution, but I also use self-calibration during activity, so I wouldn't want it just calibrated before start.

I understand that but if you manually enter the known elevation into the watch next time you run from that point, it is quite likely that will remove the old incorrect data. Thereafter, it could be expected to calibrate automatically to the correct elevation for your run start at that point.

Do you mean that Fenix 7 series work as 6 series worked until 19.20 as regards the manual altitude calibration assigned to locations? If it is so than I can hope that 6X still works so with 20.30, too.

It would be great that the items with highest priorities would be the same as earlier, I mean those having higher priority than DEM linked alltitude data, see the priority list

Manual calibration immediately prior to starting the activity
Prior manual calibration point at the same location
Recent manual calibration, if the quality of the calibration is determined to be good enough
Map data (DEM), if available
…..

The problem is that I had never entered a manual calibration at that point.

The one I had manually entered was at home, over 50km from where I was.

It was written somewhere on the F6 Forums that the watch displays the last manually entered elevation as long as it could not yet get a sufficiently accurate GPS fix to auto calibrate. I assume the same is the case on the F7.

Sorry, but no way I can find that post again among the many hundreds of altimeter threads and posts on the F6 section .

Sure, I got it at once. I am just hunting for a confirmation that the feature I mentioned has not been killed.

And Philip’s comment might give this confo….
