Does the Fenix 7s have removable spring pins?

Just purchased the 7s and looking to buy a hook strap to replace the band. I can't figure out if the watch has removable spring pins. There seems to be a bit of give to the bars, but I can't seem to remove them. I understand that the pins of the 6s were removable. Can anyone confirm if they are fixed or removable, and if the latter, let me know how to remove them?

Thanks!

  • @Zange Here's how I easily and quickly got the double-band through the fixed spring bars.  Just use a thin length of ribbon as shown in this photo:

SC8 still rocks after maybe 10 years...

I do wish Garmin got rid of the bloody 7% efficiency solar panel over the display, though... Makes visibility... Well... At least 7% worst, I guess!

  • I successfully installed the Nick Mankey Designs (NMD) Hook Strap Fixed Bar version of this elastic watch band.  Good to be back to a comfortable watch band.  I used the method I previously described to thread the band between the spring bar and the bezel.  It's a tight fit but doable.  I still hoping to get some 6X removable spring bars to ease installation and changing of bands.  The good news it for those who need/want a NMD band for their Fenix 7 there's one that will work without any spring bar changes.

  • We’ll see who the first brave person is who takes off the front cover to see if you can get to the spring bars that way.

They have to be removable, this is the most logical way to do so. They probably did it this way as they had to send out a lot of replacement spring bars.

  • Looking at the pictures of the watch does not seem you can access the spring bars removing the cover... They look to be fitted in holes into the lugs pretty much identical to the Fenix 6 ones, however the bars have no flanges and their length does not allow space for shrinking the tip with a tool, so... You can install them (as Garmin did before shipping the watch Smiley ) but non remove them. Pretty much as describer by another guy here which installed instinct bars on a Fenix 6 - the instinct bars look identical to the Fenix 7 ones

  • Just adding one more complaint from an unsatisfied customer

  •   Thanks so much for this!  I'm going to try with my Mankey strap(s) this afternoon.  Probably like so many others who bought the F7 with the intention of transferring their NMD hook straps over, I was dissapointed and frustrated over the change in pin design.  Also, how uncomfortable are the OEM Garmin straps after wearing a Mankey!?!?

  • Just finished chatting with Paul from Garmin Support.  He claims that Garmin redesigned the pins to NOT be removable due to complaints of pins coming out and customers losing/breaking watches.  I call BS - owned a FENIX 3 for two years, and a FENIX 5X for almost 4.  Half Marathons, Marathons, HIIT workouts, rowing...never any issue with pins coming loose.

This almost seems like an effort to keep people buying the "QuickFit" straps from Garmin instead of more comfortable 3rd party options like Nick Mankey.  If pin security is really that much of a concern, Garmin should've gone back to the screw/post design.

I'm debating on returning my F7X Solar and going back to the trusty 5X+.

I have made my own fixed bar NK strap now. Cutting 3-4mm out in the middle of the bar like with the real fixed bar. You can only do this with the plastic bars of course, not with stainless steel. Failed with a 20mm NK strap because it was too close to the end. You really need to do it quite in the middle for the band to stay secure in the bar. But then it fits good, no need here to buy the fixed bar now. But when ordering new bands of course I will choose fixed bar now.

But as hard as it was getting the 20mm strap through the 7s, it is almost harder to get it through the Epix 2 aka F7. The pins are not only non-removable, they are also closer to the housing than before imo, or at least it feels like that. Yes, the ribbon helps a lot when putting the band on, under the pins. But have you found a solution for the band to come off more easily? The ribbon doesn't help for getting it off the watch. You almost tear the band apart and I always have a bad feeling when removing the band. Any trick for it?

Depends. For all-day use I find them uncomfortable because they put the watch more into the bones when wearing tight for sensors to work good. My wrist and bones ache more, even though I don't wear it TOO tight.

NK bands are number one in comfort. But Garmin bands are quite stretchy at least the F6 white band I have here. So it depends. For workout I would even prefer Garmin Silicon bands because they don't get loose over time when doing a hard workout with hand movement and they stay tight. But then again, I have much more sweat even under the watch itself when wearing silicone bands compared to NM bands. Strange...
