The Tactix 7 is now Available

now that the fenix 7x is released, it's time to turn our attention to what i (we?) REALLY want, the tactix delta successor. according to my research, fenix 6 was launched in august, tactix delta the following january. if this timeframe holds, echo should launch in june. CANNOT wait. all i really want is the case material/look/feel of the delta and delta software enhancements with the fenix 7 updates and it should easily retain the title of the best watch garmin makes...

  • both are there. the comparison chart has a couple of issues...

I see the point being made about Multi-Band. In the documentation I have on my end, it says Multi-GNSS and Multi-Band but when you use our filter for Multi-Band devices, the new Tactix 7 is not showing. Our vendors have it listed as Multi-GNSS and Multi-Band since they are using the same documentation I am looking at.

I have unboxed and confirmed all 3 models are Multi-GNSS and Multi-Band.

  • So its basically a fenix 7X with the added aviation weather functionality of the D2 Mach 1.

OK, I want one now, but my fenix 7X SS might get jealous.

  • It has been confirmed the Fenix 7X Beta is not compatible.

Does this mean the "tactix 7 series" will get its own Forum - like the "fenix 7 series" and "epix 2" so as to avoid confusion between the tactix 7 software and the fenix 7 software?  And to avoid cluttering up the fenix 7 series forum threads with all the Aviation and Ballistics questions exclusive to the tactix 7 series.

  • I noticed this as well, no Tactix specific forum.

Maybe because its meant to be a secret watch only for the military, there must be no evidence it exists, mmm, kill switch Stuck out tongue winking eye

  • Now that is a bummer.

As an Epix Gen 2 owner, I was seriously tempted but separate software typically means worse software support. I would really like to get this clarified as this wasn't the case with the previous Tactix?

  • The Coyote Brown Nylon band will look amazing with the watch Heart eyesHeart eyes

  • Tactix 7 is closer branding but slightly more differentiated in features from the f7X than the tactix delta was from the f6x.

Tactix 7 pro hardware differences from the fenix 7X sapphire solar:

    • Bezel is engraved with 24 hour markings and watch faces are available with 24-hour analog time indicator. I think this is always Zulu time (UTC).
    • Green instead of red as the dim LED in the flashlight
    • Bundled with a (very nice) $US100 nylon watch band in the box

    Additional software features:

    • Night vision mode backlight is a very dim backlight mode not configurable on fenix
    • Weather reports (when paired with a smartphone)
    • Stealth mode is a stricter airplane mode that additionally disables using GNSS which prevents recording an activity that requires GNSS or any other feature that requires GNSS, like storing a waypoint.
    • Kill switch is a shortcut to System > Reset > Delete Data and Reset Settings
    • SKU available with a ballistics calculator

From my personal perspective the 24-hour bezel / analog indicator and nylon band are the best features of the tactix.

On a side-note the fenix 7 firmware up to and including 8.13b is more buggy than I recall for early fenix 5 and fenix 6 firmware. There are a number of easily reproducible crashes and more random freeze and crash conditions during activities that result in data loss. I would not trust the fenix 7X right now in challenging field conditions. I'm glad I don't have any big events for a while because I sold my f6X.

You did forget the green diode light amoung the best features... Slight smile

Jokes aside (though the above was only partually a joke..), it is probably understandable that the FW are treated separately between Tactix and Fenix given the amount of different and additional features the tactix has... if managed as (to the best of my understanding) same firmware as it was for the Delta/F6x generaition would imply probably too many unused modules especially on the fenix 7x (all the aviation information, for instance) and could lead, as it was happening in some cases with the fenix 6x, to an "envy" reaction where a Fenix would think to be tough enough to act like a Tactix, always ending in the inglorious death of the daring fenix 6x...

Only risk I see... though understand the point about the current stability of F7x FW, is that being the tactix less of a mainstream seller by nature could get less attention in the FW developments being on its own.

  • Current firmware on the Tactix 7 is 7.64. So it is already in between Fenix 7 7.35 and the 8.13 beta. Would be great if someone from Garmin could comment on this. Having a watch with firmware that is maintained regularly is too good.
