Goodbye, Fenix 6 forum...

It's been a fun two and a half years, but it's time to move on to greener pastures... Hopefully I'll see you all tomorrow, in a fresh new Garmin subforum ;)

While I await the return of my 6X that I sent in for replacement last weekend, I'm watch-less until I either get it back, or I get my hands on the "latest and greatest", whichever comes first.

See you all on the other side!

  • I'll be there beside you in the "latest and greatest" forum as soon as I can...

  • Noice! I will wait untill you guys test the gps and let me know. Then, I will move on... Thank you Slight smile

  • How soon until the same forum topics start to show up in Fenix 7 forum?

  • what was wrong with your watch that required a replacement?

  • I posted a thread about it here a couple days ago, but basically the software got all scrambled up somehow, and nothing worked right on it anymore. Buttons quit doing what they're supposed to, menus got all scrambled up, widgets screen completely missing, activity profiles all gone, etc. Garmin wasn't able to resolve it with any troubleshooting steps, so they offered a free replacement with a refurb.

It was very sudden - watch was working great friday morning, then friday afternoon it all went to hell. Some people are theorizing maybe the flash memory went bad, but unfortunately we may never know what really happened.

  • My credit card is chomping at the bit. I’ve been enjoying my F6 and Marq Athlete but they’re old now. Time to update.

  • Yes I'm waiting to see what's actually on offer, I usually wait about a year before most of the important bugs are sorted out by other users before I just fly out aimlessly and grab a new Fenix... I Just don't know about it enough yet, I also want to see what else is coming out like the Epix 2 for example, but I'll still hold off until I know why I'm upgrading.

  • My wish list (which won't matter because Garmin has undoubtedly already finalized the hardware design for the Fenix 7 by now)

    1. Increase each display by 0.1 inches (7S 1.3", 7 1.4", 7X 1.5"), without making the watches bigger, by ridding the watchface of the useless black bezel with the tickmarks on it
    2. Increase the resolutions accordingly (260x260, 280x280, 300x300)
    3. Increase color depth from 8-bit (64 colors) to 10-bit (256 colors) or higher.
    4. Elevate 4 sensor (this one is pretty much a given)
    5. Connect IQ 4 compatible (also pretty much a given)
    6. Solar Sapphire option, like Tactix Delta already has
    7. More efficient solar panel on the solar models (use some of the real estate gained from getting rid of the black tickmark bezel)
    8. Increased storage (64GB or more)
    9. Higher capacity batteries (with 7X getting the bigger battery from the Enduro)
    10. Dual-band GPS, with ability to use single-band if desired for less battery consuption
    11. Maintain compatibility with current quickfit straps
    12. Make it thinner (or at least don't make it thicker) than the current Fenix 6 models.
    13. Faster processor to make map navigation work faster.
    14. Retain (or improve) the current 7-day, 14-day, and 21-day battery life.
    15. Ability to configure, backup, and restore ALL watch/activity settings on Connect Mobile app.

Getting all of those things would be awesome, but just being realistic, I'd probably still upgrade to the 7 even if it only adds 3 or 4 of those things.

Optional: Keep the 5-buttons, but add a touchscreen that can be toggled on automatically in certain screens (such as while panning/zooming the map), but that can otherwise remain deactivated the rest of the time. I don't really care if they add this feature, but if they did, I wouldn't complain as long as it can be turned off and doesn't replace the buttons.

I couldn't care less about LTE or amoled, in fact I specifically DO NOT want either of those things, but I'd be fine with it if they made it optional with a separate SKU for people who want those things. I also don't want a speaker/microphone unless they can somehow be implemented without affecting the waterproofing.

I just dug up this old post of mine from 8 months ago. It almost feels like Garmin gave my list to an engineer and said "here, make this!" Joy

#1, #2, #3, and possibly #8 are the only wish list items it looks like I won't be getting. I said, back then, that I'd probably upgrade even if I only got 3 or 4 of those items, but it sounds like I'm getting 12 of them Wink

  • Wait- you're watchless?  I can't live without my Garmin.

    Hope that Garmin thrills us.

  • Given that Garmin posted that on their official twitter page, I guess we can finally "legally" mention here on the Garmin forum that the upcoming watch is FENIX 7 Smiley
