Hi All, new to the forum :)

Just after some advice if possible.

Ive been interested in the Garmin range of watches for some time now and am considering purchasing the 5X but just have a question, all the info i see online regarding the maps heavily covers the use of hiking etc - im going to disneyland paris in March and hoping to get into the city at some point to have a wonder about. basically im wanting to know if the maps can be used in the city, eg if i get off a train and go for a walk about can i create a breadcrumb to follow to get me back to the train station or are the maps only useable off road for use on hiking trails?

Hope that all makes sense, all info would be greatly appreciated :)

I live in Paris and got a 5X.
Don't forget the city is made of "canyons" where GPS sometimes can be lost.
But I have found in many trips, the last being in Cambridge UK, how useful a wrist GPS can be. I have used the road magnet option to avoid any zig zag.
Also the 5X is bringing a lot of informations for the weather and also a compass and the time of the sunset.
I find it very handy, even in a city.
    Cheers

sorry, following on from this - to be able to use the tracback option do i need to physically do something like go into hiking to start recording my walk or just turn on gps or something??
  • Start your walk or hike and when you are at a place you would like to turn around just pause the walk (top right button) and then scroll down to back to start option

    or

    1) Hit the left menu button
    2) scroll down and select navigation menu
    3) select back to start menu
    4) select tracback option

To change to lock to roads
    1) Hit the left menu button
    2) Scroll down and select map
    3) if use sys settings is on, select off and more options will appear
    4) scroll down to lock on road.

Not played with that lock on roads myself.

(Another way is to just save your location at the start, from the top left button quick option list - wander about and then do a route back to the save location.)
