fenix 5X Plus keeps asking about HRM-Pro+ data even if strap is disconnected

Hi all,

I have had the F5X+ for years with a HRM-Run and it has worked flawlessly until the strap started misbehaving. Replacing it with a HRM Pro Plus, everything is good when running.

When I swim (pool), without the strap, after an activity the watch keeps asking about the strap data even if I disconnected it before the activity. This results in having every time to wait some timeout of the search and confirming few times that I really don't want to include the strap data.

I searched around without success.

Any hint?

Disconnection does not really work, because the watch remains in the search mode. You'd need to remove the HRM-Pro from Sensor & Accessories. Much better and more comfortable would be disabling Sensors…

After additional digging and a full search for the exact English wording I got from the watch (pool swim searching stored hr data site:forums.garmin.com), I stumbled across other discussions to discover that apparently it is a "known feature". Anyway the HRM-Run was missing this feature.

You do not need to wait. After confirming the first Save, when the message about waiting for HRM appears, immediately press the Back button, and confirm that you want to save the activity without the HRM data. I learned very quickly to do these two additional button presses automatically whenever I am saving a swim activity without my HRM strap.

You are right. I learned that too and I missed to specify it in the second message. Still I am a bit puzzled of the whole story with the new HRM-Pro+.

Puzzled by what? That the watch is asking whether you want to download the data from the HRM? That's because if you removed your strap before saving the activity, you'd lose the data, so it is safer to ask, and let you the chance to put the strap back on, before saving and syncing the activity.

I see the different rationale of the intelligent straps that can work also independently from the watch (HRM-Run missed this option). Though, interface-wise, when I disconnect the strap from the watch, the no-asking policy would have appeared more logical to me or I would have left the option to the user in the settings of the activity.

Much better and more comfortable would be disabling Sensors & Accessories in a custom Power Mode, and assigning the Power Mode to concerned activity profiles. Unfortunately it does not work either. I recommend suggesting the modification to Garmin at Share Ideas | Garmin. I did, but only frequently appearing request have a chance to be considered.

Right, I didn't test a custom activity but I realized that for example with Hiking (I guess since I tried it in Italian) there is no strap search so evidently only some activity comes with an expectation for HR data. I might give the feedback though.
