[17.23] Epix Pro freezes EVERY time I enable Wi-Fi

I was previously connected to Wi-Fi, but I always had it disabled. I enabled it yesterday and synced via it, but then the watch froze and I had to restart it (long press on light button). I removed the Wi-Fi but now when I try to reconnect to it it freezes every time I have put the password in and press the green check mark to connect. I then have to restart ut using the long press of the light button. It is completely stuck.

Anyone else? Any solutions? Thanks!

  • I went to the store to exchange the watch, and the new watch works like a charm. Also, the watch started downloading and installing the latest firmware, and I, of course, started panicking, but even after the upgrade, the Wi-Fi still works. hopefully this works for you as well.

  • That’s great news , still not received my replacement yet but fingers crossed as it really is a fantastic watch

  • This was happening to me with SW 17.23, want back to 16.22 and fixed the problem. Yesterday updated to the new 17.28 and wifi freezes the watch again.

*** Edit: I just checked again, now it is working. Hope it's permanent

  • Can we have a stable version? I called Garmin support and they said they will give me a new watch. Are you aware of how much money you lose from releasing unstable versions? This is crazy!

  • Update July 3, 2024:

Our engineers are aware of an issue causing the device to freeze when accessing WiFi via settings, syncing, checking for updates etc. They are investigating this concern at this time. If you are experiencing this issue, they are recommending disabling the WiFi in the watch until there is a solution available.

  • Same here! It was working okay for a month and after the updates done keep on freezing when adding WiFi… it is very annoying … is Garmin offering new watch to all customer’s experiencing that glitch?

  • This it totally unacceptable now mines been like this for six weeks mines just updated to 17 28 and its gone worse. Its still freezing on wi fi .and when I plug it in to recharge it turns off .it also now freezes on every activity save and I have to hold the reset button and restart. Luckily it dose not loose the data  but I have had enough  now I'm so pissed  off with this bag of crap .going on holiday mtb trip to Austria for 3 weeks and this us not what I wanted an unreliable pice of trash...I wish I didn't sell my 6 x now. Garmin what are you doing about this its totally  unacceptable?????

  • Hello, I had a similar issue with both sw17.23 and sw17.28. The watch could see the wifi and connect to it. The "test wifi connection" is ok at first attempt but then I get a message "no wifi connection available". When trying to sync the watch would say "no wifi connection" or "unable to connect to wifi" or even "cannot find the server, try later". I tested the connection on 3 different wi-fi with same issues. I tried he master reset twice and still KO. Now I got back to the more reliable 16.22 and wifi is working good. I also disabled the automatic update to prevent the watch from installing again the newer sw.

  • That strange, i have hangs when watch only attempts to connect to wifi. But that not all issues that i find:

    - LiveTrack autostart not working - says "LiveTrack failed" but when i disable autostart and start it manualy it works like it should, and i have to noticed that LiveTrack Autostart working normally with my 1040 like before

    - 50% of my ConnectIQ programs an widgets stop working - only displays IQ! . I tried to resinstall it few times witout any luck

Previously i had wifi issues with Beta 17.23 and i had to switch off beta brogram and revert to 16.22 but then Garmin forced me to update to non-beta 17.23 and issues whens back. I have no time to babying watches, realy dissapointed that garmin only cloning new watches twice a year and don't fix issues...

  • I received my replacement watch from Garmin last week and fingers crossed all is good at the moment- 17.28 is installed- luckily had my old watch backed up so was able to load all my settings which was a relief - Garmins customer service was in my experience excellent so no complaints there but disappointed that my original watch was broken by a firmware update - I can’t believe that all Epix Pro watches have this issue so maybe it’s a batch issue covering certain serial number ranges - hope everyone gets sorted
