Bad HRV-status correlates with having a cold?

Hi,

I was having a 14-days period when feeling sick and having a cold (mancold:)). I did no traing during this period. I think it is very interesting to see that my Epix 2 shows this HRV-status during the period:

I think it correlates very well with how I felt. What do you think? Is it just a coincidence or is my watch this "smart"?

Thanks,

Johannes

  • @8636325 It's worth noting that according to the graph in your screenshot, although your HRV is now showing 'balanced', this is a result of Garmin readjusting what it considers to be your normal range (the grey zone) rather than any actual change in your HRV compared to 4 weeks ago

  • I had a cold about a week ago. im feeling a lot better now and started running again. I still have stuffy nose but fell generally well. My HRV is still not recovering. Should i stop training?

Hard to say with the information you provided. Only a coach that looks at your data and history in details could assess whether the HRV situation is expected in your training + temporary sickness situation.

General guidance is "don't train if sick or injured" and the training cost will probably overcome the benefits. active recovery defined as Z1/Z2 low intensity short cross/recovery training should be OK. Note that many athletes have a hard time restraining themselves to these qualifiers.

If the low HRV persists beyond a few days of active recovery, you might need medical advice to investigate.
