v9.36 Official Software Fast Battery Drain

I'm going through the battery in 24-48 hours. No apps or fields installed. No GPS activities. Also having sync issues where I have to kill the connect app on Android to get it to sync. I had the same issues on beta now it persists into the production release

  • It is about that because during sleep I have the Do not disturb mode which to my understand stops syncing any notifications.

Last night battery went down 2% during 8 hours.

Bottom line: something messes up the watch to sync more than usual.

  • Try to power the watch off during night and it is even better, (sarcastic) these are all sollutions that are hopefully short lived, most ppl did not buy this watch, to limit more and more, would be great if Garmin would at least offer to revert back to 8.37.

Is it not possible to make version 8.37 a 9.34 or so ? so that the watchgo back to working software and the battery life that was promissed ?

  • As mentioned, I did use Airplane mode on saturday - the Epix 2 drained in 10 hours from around 80% to 1% sunday morning - in Airplane mode....
In Airplane mode the battery usage should be very very low anyway which is maybe what you are seeing.
But I believe the drain-error is somewhere else, based on my experience.

Today the watch has behaved normally, i.e. as since 9.33 beta-period with no battery issues.

This is just an observation about reverting to the previous official build. For members of the beta program, there is access to the gupdate file for the pervious official builds in the downloadable alpha builds. For people who are not, before agreeing to the watch running an update that may be offered to you, the gupdate file for the current build is available on the watch and visible if connected to a computer prior to running the update. The file is available for off line storage and thereafter available as a backup for any future build. If for example, one were to have downloaded the 9.33 gupdate file, it will be available for reverting to 9.33 when 10.XX becomes official. Given the complaints that we often see in these forums about reverting, this might be considered going forward if Garmin does not provide a native way.

  • Situation point...

My Epix2 ran out of juice yesterday after 8 days idle + 2 hours of GPS workout... :-(

Tried everything : SW/HW reset, factory reset, suppression third party apps, etc...

    Nothing worked...

So I rolled back yesterday evening to alpha  9.22...

Took me about 1h to backup files and setup the watch as before the reset. Using *.fit files from IQC apps helps a lot !!!

Et Voilà !  Everything is back to normal with a drain of about 6%/day :-)

So far, no glitches with the alpha and almost all the new functionalities of the 9.33 are implemented.

I will probably update again to 9.33 in a few days to see if the drain bug is coming back.

I know it is not optimal... but the 9.22 might be a temporary (crappy) option  Expressionless

Hmmm. Hope all goes well for you and that this is a good compromise for the degree of battery drain that you were experiencing. If I look at the list of fixes and improvements from 9.22 Alpha, to 9.33 [9.24, 9.28, 9.31 and 9.32] there is a lot that can bite you.

  • the Epix 2 drained in 10 hours from around 80% to 1% sunday morning - in Airplane mode....

Ouch. This is a such violent drain that I have ever experienced. Mine is a between 0.7% to 1%/ hour drain.
Yours was 7,9%/hour. TEN times more than mine.
It's not a drain, this is an hemorrhage !!!.

  • It is about that because during sleep I have the Do not disturb mode which to my understand stops syncing any notifications.

Do not disturb don't stop the BT synching, it just stops the warnings or receiving notifications. Also it stop the gesture and turn off the screen.

  • Yes, I was rather surprised. On 1% it screen went blank, then only showed time, and did last for about 5 hours including registering my steps on a 2 hr walk, until it shut down. Was surprised the steps showed up after recharge.

Now showing 89% after 33hrs since recharge, including a 1hr run/gps. Screen off, gesture mode.

Have just installed Battery Graph, so I expect more exact numbers ahead.

  • Last night it went from 100% to 95% in 8 hours.

Doesn't seem to have consistent behavior.
