I'm on 7.2 and after a period of not moving my wrist, the display turns completely off (this is after the expected dimming) even though I have Always On selected. I hope this is a bug and not one of the ways it gets the 6 days of battery life.

Updated October 18th, 2022:
If your display was turning off despite your settings, the v9.37 software update has fixed the issue.
This picture will help and the Support Center article…
Thanks, Chris. Yes, that does help but given those specifications there isn’t really an option for a display that is always on so “Always on Display” is misleading (and now it makes sense how Epix is able…
I hope the 7 works out better for you. I’ll never be able to go back to that muted screen after having the Epix for a week.
To reiterate my experience, AOD on, gestures off, and I literally never…
I'm sure it is but I was going to use my watch on the lowest brightness setting so burn in wouldn't likely have been a problem. But now I don't even get the option to take my chances with burn in. They could've just popped up a warning and letting us set the timeout to whatever we feel like.
And they're advertising the watch as one with an always on display.
Someone mentioned this solution on one the DCR reviews. Is this possible??
"One way to prevent the watch wave from turning off completely is disable the gesture mode with always on display. With this mode, when it times out after 8 seconds of interaction the display just dims indefinitely. " (Credit to AlexandreAcemyan via YouTube)
Sadly it doesn’t work for me
tried it some minutes ago
Gotcha. Thank you for checking on it!
I’m not sure this is as big a deal as people are making it out to be. I have a AOD on with gesture off, and my watch face basically stays on all the time. If I hold extremely still for a while I can get it to turn off, but I have to make an effort.
Well, I think the issue is that it isn't 'always on'... Which is fine, but then don't advertise it as always on. Make it a setting. If any movement, even a tiny amount, turns it on, then why not have it stay always on as the name implies? I can see having a setting like this while sleeping but not during the day. I'd also want to put the watch on a desk and be able to glance at it. Again, a setting here makes sense. Maybe someone else wants it to turn off to get a bit more battery. One obvious question is, how does this impact battery life? Can you only get 6 days (or whatever) with the screen off?
If Garmin despite all these "efforts" keep getting watches with burn in, they might lower this to 30 seconds. And if that doesn't help, to 5 seconds, and so on...
The problem is that they're advertising one thing and then change the product by not giving its customers the option to set the timeout to true AOD.
It's the easiest thing to just let its customers set the timeout in a few steps. And I'm fine if a warning pops up if you turn on true AOD.
This does seem to work but given it’s not behaving as described in the chart shared by Chris, this might be a bug
i had the same issue on mine what i found was somehow do not disturb got turned on. screen would go black after the 8 second default time out once i turned off do not disturb it went back to working normal
While I am fine with the display's behaviour as-is, it is indeed a case of false advertising.
If anything, this behaviour should be clearly outlined by Garmin AND users should be given the choice to select a longer timeout.
