Venu X1 screen size for the next descent model.

The venu x1 has just been released, I hope garmin has the good sense to release this form factor and screen size for the next descent model.

It's fabulous

  • If garmin were smart they'd release a dive app for the apple watch and android as subscription only, and some of their sports apps for subscription on apple watch and android, but thats getting away from why I started this thread

  • I dont understand your point,

We had two here. But I got your point when you told you "I've never understood the round format on a digital watch".

If you don't want round, there's X50i for your "a professional dive computer, a serious piece of kit" needs.

And then you said "I think garmin should consolidate the myriad similar watches into less watch lines", but you are still asking them to make more different watches... Shrug tone2

  • No. I said that compared to X50i it isn't. Words like "professional" and "serious" are very subjective words.

The market place has clearly indicated the battery life is not "a non starter". The shorter battery life is clearly an acceptable compromise for many, many people. It might be "a non starter" for you and others: it's a major reason people choose Garmins over the Apple Watch.

... imo, its for one off on holiday for those that never tried or rarely dive maybe,

    This might be most divers!

... apple watch only recreational its competition is fenix 8 not the descent

I said this already. The Fenix 8 is the direct competitor to the Ultra (with respect to dive capability).

If garmin were smart they'd release a dive app for the apple watch and android as subscription only, and some of their sports apps for subscription on apple watch and android, but thats getting away from why I started this thread

    Nah, this would be dumb.

  • You suggested the Mk3 wasn't "a serious piece of kit".

No. I said that compared to X50i it isn't. Words like "professional" and "serious" are very subjective words.

Preferring something then depends a lot of the users needs. For technical divers I would think they would go X50i over MK3i and for recreational divers otherwise.

  • Are you a salesman for the X50i? It's not a watch you can wear every day!

My point re consolidation is a more general point I've also made else where, ie garmin line is confusing, they should make it simpler, take a leaf out of apples book, and focus on aesthetics given theyve locked down the tech

  • No. I said that compared to X50i it isn't. Words like "professional" and "serious" are very subjective words.

They weren't words I was using. And you are the overly-focused on the,

Preferring something then depends a lot of the users needs. For technical divers I would think they would go X50i over MK3i and for recreational divers otherwise.

The X50i seems clearly marketed to technical divers (or wannabees). If you aren't doing technical diving, there isn't a great reason to pick the X50i over the Mk3.

  • The mk3i does everything the x50i does, including multi gas and ccr, its a professional dive computer

  • Are you a salesman for the X50i? It's not a watch you can wear every day!

No. But if you don't mention that you want the watch to be everyday wearable, then don't be surprised if you are recommended a product that didn't fit your unsaid requirements.

  • Battery life on apple/android is a non starter for me, that's my opinion, feel free to differ.

Once recreational divers have got past open water theyre more serious but I think youre right, most recreational diversity try it only a few times, though there are far more recreational diversity now than 20y ago

Re subscription for garmin apps, I dont want garmin to lose or worse fail to likes of apple or Samsung, I want them to persist because they provide great technical kit so anything that mai tains their market share or grows it would be good imo, its just a suggestion

  • No. But if you don't mention that you want the watch to be everyday wearable, then don't be surprised if you are recommended a product that didn't fit your unsaid requirements.

    This doesn't make any sense.

If the X50i would have worked for him, he would not have mentioned the X1. Mentioning the X1 is clearly implying he wants something "everyday wearable".
