The venu x1 has just been released, I hope garmin has the good sense to release this form factor and screen size for the next descent model.
It's fabulous

To each their own. While I do agree that the round shape is a remnant of the analogue watch era, for many of us that's exactly the appeal. I like to wear something that looks and functions like a time…
If you want bigger screen, get the X50i.
This doesn’t make much sense.
If that would have worked for him, why would he be asking about a X1?
The X50i is
Ratio do idive watch, it is thick at 15mm but it doesn't have the bezel or ugly shape/design of garmin, and its rated for 150m!
?
So maybe its depth rating, but recreational…
Noone can confuse the subject of my post with wanting an x50i, you have but I dont think my OP is confusing, I like the form factor and size of screen, I think a square descent would be great
If you aren't doing technical diving, there isn't a great reason to pick the X50i over the Mk3.
There is. It's pretty much what you are looking and wanting.
Like if you can't imagine this, let's go this by a example. I wanted a Garmin's dive only watch to have one ecosystem for all other sports and diving. I didn't want dive computer to do everything, I can have a different daily driver that I can update more often and it doesn't cost two arms and a leg. Have the dive computer for a long life that I don't need to upgrade so often. Also having HUGE screen is a nice thing that you can see it clearly even if you are getting old and/or have other reasons for bad vis.
Unfortunately when I bought Mk3i Garmin didn't even have X50i or any other dive-only computer in offer. So yes, I see that there's reasons to choose X50i even for a recreational divers. I would have bought it if it would have existed when I was looking Garmin's dive computer.
And now as Mk3i doesn't get anymore new features it starts to be time upgrade the daily driver. What that then leads is interesting to see. Like if it's F8 Pro Miniled, then it would have the recreational diving features minus AI. Then one would use Mk3i for diving still for the AI.. and then would probably be nicer to have X50i to switch when diving, but as one has Mk3i it's probably like I'm stuck with it.
It's a non starter for me, that's my opinion, feel free to differ
You implied it was a "non starter" generally. Which clearly isn't true.
While no one would object to better battery life in Apple watches, many people are OK with the trade-off (compromise).
It's fine that it's a "non starter" for you. It's a non-starter for many Garmin owners.
Once recreational divers have got past open water theyre more serious but I think youre right, most recreational diversity try it only a few times, though there are far more recreational diversity now than 20y ago
I used to do a lot of marginally technical diving. I'm considering a Garmin watch for navigation but I'd probably buy one that can also be used for diving. The Mk3 might be more than I need or want to spend and might be just too big.
Re subscription for garmin apps, I dont want garmin to lose or worse fail to likes of apple or Samsung, I want them to persist because they provide great technical kit so anything that mai tains their market share or grows it would be good imo, its just a suggestion
The subscriptions for everything is annoying. I suspect Apple didn't want to build-up inhouse dive-computer expertise. So, they contracted that out to another company (Oceanic). Oceanic had to do something that made sense for them (considering that they also sell dive computers). The arrangement is interesting.
There is. It's pretty much what you are looking and wanting.
This is exactly why recommending the X50i to 7000518 made no sense. It should have been clear he wants something like the Mk3 but with a bit bigger screen. That isn't the odd desire you appear to think it is.
So yes, I see that there's reasons to choose X50i even for a recreational divers
No, not really. Especially, given that it's an extra $2000 and really big. There are $200 dive computers that are more than sufficient for recreational diving.

The Mk3 still has a lot of life in it.
It's almost certain the "F8 Pro" would have the same 40m limit the F8 has. So, it's not going to be a strict replacement for the Mk3.
I suspect Garmin will have a Mk4 for people who want to go deeper (like I used to do routinely) and want something more "robust looking" than the F8.
It should have been clear he wants something like the Mk3 but with a bit bigger screen.
X50i still fits to that. If you don't add the every day usage there. So reason me suggesting it as it wasn't clearly said what was the reasons there. To the form factor, being square, X50i is not round and so on.. And yes, not expecting that he was wanting X50i, but this is internet. If there wasn't clearly said what was the reasons, you will get funny suggestions.
Especially, given that it's an extra $2000 and really big.
Extra 2000? What? Looking USD pricing for X50i it's $1,499.99 USD.
Descent MK3i 51mm is $1,599.99 USD. So it's cheaper.
It being really big is the WIN there.
X50i still fits to that. If you don't add the every day usage there
He clearly wanted the everyday usage (the point you keep ignoring).
So reason me suggesting it as it wasn't clearly said what was the reasons there.
Again, if he wasn't looking for everyday usage (or something not so large or expensive), he wouldn't have talked about the X1.
Extra 2000? What? Looking USD pricing for X50i it's $1,499.99 USD.
Descent MK3i 51mm is $1,599.99 USD. So it's cheaper.
Missing the point (again).
So, it's an extra $1500 instead of $2000. It's still a lot more money.
How many people buying the X50i aren't buying the $500 T2 transmitter too?
He clearly wants the everyday usage (the point you keep ignoring).
No, I don't. It was later mentioned that it was one of the requirements. Then the conversation has continued on the comparisons and other talks.
Also do we have again a new requirement? It should not cost what Mk3i costs? Then this probably should have been posted to G2 forum.
I didnt upgrade to the mk3 from the mk2, which I sold in haste expecting a mip display on mk3.
I got a fenix 8, the lack of ai is irritating, but not a deal breaker and if its only recreational diving you do more than enough tbh, hopefully they bring out square fenix 8 as well! And add ai to all watches why would you restrict that? Given price of AI pod its not like everyone will go and buy one but would be nice to have the option
No, I don't. It was later mentioned that it was one of the requirements. Then the conversation has continued on the comparisons and other talks.
It was obvious from the start it was one of his requirements.
Unless he was unaware of the X50i, he wouldn't have mentioned the X1 unless he wanted something that could be worn every day.
Also do we have again a new requirement? It should not cost what Mk3i costs? Then this probably should have been posted to G2 forum.
No. This is you missing more points.
Clearly, he wants a Mk3 with a bigger (square) screen like the X1.
You are suggesting he buy a X50i in addition to something that can be worn daily.
So, it's an extra $1500 instead of $2000. It's still a lot more money.
What is your calculation here? How the fudge it's extra of 1500 if choice is Mk3i or X50i which is cheaper.
Then the every day watch is what you calculate over the X50i, not Mk3i. So if you do that you could argue that it's extra 699 USD, the X50i+X1 pricing combined.
