Dives disappeared in dive log on watch

When I upgraded from Descent Mk2i to Mk3i all dives were copied from the dive log on Mk2i to the dive log on Mk3i.

Then I did a couple of dives with the Mk3i and the dives were added to the log on the watch. But now suddenly (could have been after the system update) the two newest dives I did with the Mk3i are not in the log on the Mk3i anymore. All the old dives done with Mk2i are still there in the Mk3i dive log.

In the Garmin Dive app all dives are there in the log. Both the old ones from Mk2i and the two new dives done with Mk3i.

Is there any way to have the missing two missing dives on the Mk3i watch transferred to the Mk3i dive log from the Dive app again…?

  • I’m having the same problem. 42 dives from last summer have now incrementally deleted themselves from the Mk3i log. It didn’t happen all at once but in chunks of 5-15 dives or so. The logs are quite a precious record for me so I’ll definitely try the “FIT” method, at least to have the dives backed up. I really hope Garmin will have fix for this soon.

  • Hey mate. Milosherman and I have been speaking privately and outside of this thread so apologise we haven’t posted a solution yet. But we’ve combined our findings and now found a permanent fix.
Turns out that it’s the Mk3i deleting old activities from the watch to make space for new ones. If you found that some older dives remain but newer ones are deleting themselves then that’s because you may have imported them over from a previous model (Mk2i) or if you had any dives backed up from a previous Mk3i then that remains but newer ones are gone - this was the case for me when I had to have a replacement less than one month into it being brand new (1st Mk3i was defective).

    The steps to do are:

    1. delete all activities (hold UP/Menu > History > Activities) and either mannually delete one by one those you don’t need (walking, gym etc) or delete all.

    2. go to Garmin Dive App and export all dives as FIT files. There’s a weird technique to it. On bottom bar of app press: You > Dive Logs > Import all individually as FIT files.

If you try to export from the main screen where the dive logs are shown then for some reason this doesn’t copy over for me.

    3. Plug Mk3i into computer via USB-C cable and go into Garmin Folder > Activities. Then copy and paste all dives FIT files into this.

    4. Unplug Mk3i and you’re good to go.

I use my Mk3i daily for walks, runs, gym workouts etc so these were accommodating a lot of space. I do wish that Garmin automatically deleted these workouts and left the dive log workouts on since this is a dedicated dive computer with the benefit of being an everyday fitness watch but sadly they won’t look into this.

  • Ahaa… Many thanks for investigating this and sharing. So in summary, the MK3i will at a certain point delete old activities (such as dives, hikes, …) to make space for new activities, regardless of type. I currently have ~180 activities stored on the watch so that may be the limit-ish. It just deleted the last of my stored dives from last summer. Sad, and I have several GB’s of free space that could have been used for the dive log. Granted, they are still stored in the “Garmin Dive” cloudspace. My strong preference is to keep my dives so I’ll try your method to delete other activities and reload the dives from FIT-files. Have a fab summer!

  • Yes, I wondered this too as I had almost 50% space remaining but the dives would keep vanishing even after putting them back on. I had around 250 workouts on the Mk3i since July 2024 when the second one was activated (first Mk3i in June 2024 was defective and replaced the next month). All the June dives from the previous Mk3i that were imported over were fine but the dives on the newer Mk3i were being deleted.

Surprisingly, Garmin customer support gave two separate outcomes for both Milosherman and I. He was told it was a memory storage issue. I was told it’s a SW bug and that Garmin would investigate. They still are.

I now delete my non-dive workouts after they have synced to Garmin connect.
