47mm descent mk3i

Had fenix 8 for 3 weeks, lots of complaints re battery life I've not had, touch wood, has to be said what were garmin thinking not bringing out a 47mm descent.  It's still a big watch but not the ott look my previous mk2i provoked at work.

I'm on course for over 20 days battery per charge.

If a micro led descent comes out next year, hopefully garmin will have the good sense to make 47mm version especially given screen size is the same as the 51mm version.

  • Ive been wanting to buy an Mk series watch ever since the Mk1 was released but were so much more expensive and I always had the equivalent Fenix at the time, and I was already using an Oceanic Atom 2 with AI for diving.

In the last 2 years I sold the Atom 2 after 14 years, and bought a Forerunner 965 to try out the AMOLED screen, which is very good and a Descent G1 Solar as a spare watch and for diving, but miss the AI.

I thought about the Fenix 8 but I just decided to take the plunge and bought the Mk3i, as I really wanted the AI.

I too was waiting to see if a 47 mm Mk3 Pro would come out with the v5 HR, but its been another year so I waited long enough.

Its summer in Australia now so will be back into diving so wanted something now.

Knowing my luck the 47 mm Mk3i Pro with MicroLED and HRv5 will come out next week - LOL

  • I did a liveaboard for a weekend with my mk2i a few years ago and had close to 40% battery left after 8 dives with ai, gps tracking and a little music, that had 16 days on  mip screen, but i hated the size of it, especially thickness.

I've changed my mind on amoled and really like it but there's ample battery life for diving, i think for fenix 8 rather than fenix e the dive option should have been a separate additional one with ai leaving rest of fenix 8 with voice calling feature

If they bring out a 47mm descent I'll buy it, not fussed about hr/o2 sensors they're pretty poor if you're serious you should use a chest strap

  • I'm pretty sure I wont mind the size of the Mk3i 51 mm, as I have owned nearly every Fenix X in the range, starting with the Fenix 3 HR to the Fenix 7X.

Surprisingly the Fenix 3 HR was actually 1 mm thicker than the current Mk3i 51 mm (16.4 mm thick)

Fenix 3 HR 51 mm x 17.5 mm thick, and I wore this 24 x 7, even with my skinny 16.5 cm (6.5 in) girly size wrists.

Do you still use the Mk2i for diving or will you use the Fenix 8 with a separate pressure gauge?

  • I sold the mk2i, you need a dive watch you're familiar with given features are the same as the mk3i there's no new learning.

I'll never dive without an spg and i know my sac to ballpark expected use prior to dive, at low pressures I found t1 to be unreliable wrt spg, not sure if that persists with t2 transmitter, so overall irritating with no ai but not intolerable
