Descent MK3i - map sync failed

Good day.

I have had a problem with my mk3i for a long time. After connecting it to the charger, a message appears saying that the map is being updated. It starts downloading and when it reaches 100%, I get a message that the synchronization failed. Then the watch starts downloading another map and the situation repeats itself. After connecting it to the computer, the Garmin Express program tells me that everything is up to date.

I tried deleting all the maps and downloading them again, but the problem persists

Can someone explain?

  • Perfect. Thank you very much!

  • It's been quite a while—has this issue been resolved? I purchased the device about a month ago and experienced the same problem. I called the Garmin service center and was told to connect the watch to a PC, manually delete the maps from the device, and then reinstall them using the Garmin Express app.

Even after reinstalling via Express, the watch kept showing that there was an update available, so the issue persisted. Eventually, I deleted everything again and downloaded the maps only through Garmin Express. When the watch showed an update again, I just ignored it and left it as is.

About a week later, I checked again, and it no longer showed that there was an update. So I assumed the issue was related to a temporary server problem at the time, and that it had since been resolved.

However, after reading this thread by chance, I realized that this issue has been occurring for quite some time. I'm curious how others managed to solve it.
