Yeah and it will probably be open air circuit only, no CCR,trimix etc. So kinda Descent-light. Which is pretty cool for number of customers That dive ocassinally on vacation and would never buy descent…
If it has nitrox, I think I would have been just happy with it being 40m air+nitrox one. Without nitrox no-go.
So would never buy descent anyways? Is weird concept. Wanted to have my dives in Garmin ecosystem…
You don't need to do deco to go to 40m. Your bottom time is just really short.
Just fyi: It also says on the bottom back of the watch:
WR - 100 M ... Serialnumber ... DIVE - 40 M
I suspect the Fenix 8 will have Dive to 40m capability which will allow it to compete with the Apple Watch Ultra.
It probably wont have the inductive buttons the Mk3 has, hence only 40m Dive, not 200m.
It wont have Air Integration, that will be a sole feature for the Descents, since Garmin are good at feature separation for niche purposes.
However, I'm guessing the Fenix 9 or 10 will have a variant with AI, making future Descents no longer needed.
Merging the products is probably a good thing as they have too many models making it confusing for new consumers considering a Garmin.
But for at at least a couple of years, the Mk3 is the choice for beyond 40m and AI.

So would never buy descent anyways? Is weird concept. Wanted to have my dives in Garmin ecosystem and would have wanted dive only computer with big screen. Garmin didn't have them, so did go with 51mm Descent.
Would I have known that there's going to be Fenix 8 in autumn which has all my diving needs without AI, would have been pretty hard to go with Descent with AI.
Well, there's a lot of different features in Garmin software based on the watch that doesn't require specific hardware. Yes, if it can do Air it can do Nitrox, and it can also do multiple gases and etc on software side, but will it was the question.
I have no idea what Apple can do, so referring to that, tells me nothing.
I think the weirdest thing is like, Descent Mk3i (presumable Fenix 7 pro's) will sort courses by the nearest course starting point. What a nice feature.. Forerunner will not do that. It's just software. Why do the Forerunner users need to scroll a lot to find the course they want to open.
