A few questions before buying

I am very close of getting a MK3, and i have a few questions before.

a).How bad is the scratch issue on the bezzels ? Will the occasional light bump on a door for example, produce a nasty looking scratch ? Do you think it's significantly more sensitive than other watches ?

b)I am more into freediving and spearfishing. Can i save a gps poi while i am spearfishing and find a good spot (on the surface of course), so that i can navigate to it another time ?

c)Does it have an automatic surface alarm depending on the previous dive duration or it's just a predefined one ?

d)Can someone post a picture of what the primary surface screen is after a dive (freedive or hunt) or tell me what info is shown on that screen ?

e)I see quite a few issues with the watch in the forum. Are they really that bad, or it's because people write only when they have a problem ?

Thanks.

  • a) I did not notice any scratches yet, though it already hit a few doors.

    b) don't know, but when scuba diving it records start and end position.

    e) yes, there are issues. It depends what you expect. It is not error free but you can workaround most issues. I use it mainly for scuba diving, navigation for long distance walks and recording gym activities. It does all of that without crashing, so I have nothing to complain about.

  • Can anyone confirm if you can save a gps location at any given time.I am not talking about entry and exit points.

I mean ANY point at your current location.Save it as a POI and be able to navigate to it whenever you want.

  • Yes you can. On the surface long press the top left button and select save location. You'll need to give it a minute to pick up the satellites though.

It'll scratch if you bang it around but not any worse than any other watch I have had. I think this one scratches less than the MK2i did.

I have no complaints about my watch. I use it for everything from scuba diving to hunting to ultra marathons and have not had any issues. If you do have any problems though unlikely, Garmin is great to deal with and always been very helpful on any issues I have had in the past.

  • Thank you.

Another question. Can you see the map with those saved poi's on the surface, so that you can navigate to them ?

  • You can select the pois from a list and see an icon on the map of the watch. In the Garmin explore app you can see them all, add new ones, etc. as an easier way

and the watch is easily searchable. same as mk2i - a bump in a metal is almost guaranteed micro scratch…
