Deco Stop Depth

My deco stop ceiling depth is set at 3m(a default setting), and my MK3 does show 3m as deco stop depth under a deco condition, but deco stop timer starts counting down at around 6m deep.

I noticed the following from Garmin manuals.

MK1: Stay within 3 m (9 ft.) of the of the ceiling depth until the timer reaches zero.
MK2: Stay within 0.6 m (2 ft.) of the decompression stop ceiling depth until the decompression stop timer reaches zero.
MK3: Stay within 0.6 m (2 ft.) of the decompression stop ceiling depth until the decompression stop timer reaches zero.

I have a feeling their MK2 and MK3 manuals are misleading/wrong and MK3 stop timer starts 3m deeper than your setting.
Does anyone agree?

I know the timer stops if you ascend more than 0.6m above the setting.

  • I don't quite understand your question. Are you asking about deco stops or safety stops?

The computer continuously estimates ongassing / offgassing at every depth even if you violate the deco ceiling (not recommended). If you have a mandatory deco stop and you are net offgassing then the stop time will count down even if you are significantly deeper than the deco ceiling. Sometimes we do that intentionally just to spend more time on the shallow reef areas at the end of a deep multilevel dive; this is less efficient from a deco perspective but it's fine as long as you plan accordingly.
