Different HR zones of different activities

I am new to Garmin. How does garmin set heart zones? On the left are the running and mountain bike activity zones, on the right are the walking, indoor rowing and cycling activity zones. Why are they so different? Mountain biking and cycling were recorded using the Edge 840. Running, indoor rowing and walking were recorded using the watch. Shouldn't the zones be the same for all activities?

  • There are up to four different HR zone tables - the general one, and then tables for Running, Cycling, and for Swimming. In plus, the zone tables may be based on a variable value (either the Max HR, the LTHR, or the Reserve HR), and hence can change anytime the base value changes. You can define the zone tables in the way you prefer, though. So if you wish, you can keep just the general HRZ table, and base it on absolute BMP values, if you do not want them to adapt automatically.

  • In Garmin Conenct in Edge 840 settings I found this table. In the "Secondary" column, it says that I added the zone. I have no idea where or how. I can only see one zone directly on the device in the Edge settings, not four. I only found the four zones in the watch settings, I reset it to "secondary" and the zones were set the same as for running, cycling and swimming. So far it's messy for me, hopefully it will work. I would prefer to see this table in the Descent settings in Garmin Connect as well.
