The best Garmin ever?

Just getting acqainted with the Descent Mk3i! Has to be the best Garmin ever. Just has every feature for every outdoor activity, amazing. I'm putting my 7pro out to pasture . Was not a fan of AMOLED and sold my Epix 7 Gen 2. but this just works. Great watch, can't imagine what is next?

    Yes it definitely is.

    Next,
Mk3 Pro or Mk4 with OHR5, AMOLED Solar, Blood Pressure, LTE ?

  • Sounds great but i have to disagree, solar is a complete waste of space, I'd rather have that real estate taken by an AMOLED display, that's why I prefer the Descent over the 7X. I have an Edge 1040 cycling computer that has much bigger solar panels, and if I ride late in the morning when the sun is up. On a 2 hour ride I gain at most 15 minutes of battery time. so solar is the one feature I am not a fan of?

  • Solar will be just waste of space until technology will not allow to really charge battery, not like it is now to slow down battery discharge.
LTE, next wast of space and strong battery consuming feature.
OHR5 - yes, would be noce to have.
Blood pressure, I cannot imagine how it might be realized, if you look how blood pressure is measured now.
I would say, faster we will have sugar in blood level measure than blood pressure.

How about voice recognition through a paired blue tooth headset.

    Garmin, next data page

    Garmin, show me map

    Garmin, show me notifications

    Garmin, show next way point

Could be useful during activities where you cant or is difficult to touch the watch

  • for me the only think that is lacking is the distance it has to be from the smartphone. it is the same as mk2 that is quite limited. I have to be in the next room to have the watch connected, and my wife with an apple have connection in all house, independently where is the phone.

  • Well, there is actually a feature I really miss. I have been asking for this since I had my Mk1, then the Mk2i and now Mk3i.

It is the possibility to disable the automatic start of dive mode. We have a pool and during the warm 6-7 months a year, I jump into the pool at least 10 times a day. And I swim in the ocean several times a week. I have to remember to set the watch to Pool mode every day in order not to log a dive. Really annoying.

Then I dive about two weeks a year, when I need the dive capabilities. (I guess this is the case for the majority of the Descent customers?). There must be a smarter way to disable the automatic dive mode for people that dive occasionally like me, then to have to remember to activate the Pool mode every day. The easiest way would be to allow us to set a permanent pool mode as an option. (Then perhaps give option to save a pool dive, if someone has forgotten to deactivate the pool mode during a real dive….?)

But Garmin has never responded to implement this…

  • LTE

    Why?

The watches won't really be able to make much use out of this. It's also something you'd have to pay $10/month (at least) for.

It wouldn't be that useful for tracking since where such tracking would be most useful is often going to be out of cell-phone range.

The solar feature is really more useful for long-distance riders. It's also a way of getting some people to spend more money.

  • How about voice recognition through a paired blue tooth headset.

That might require a much faster computer (and a hit on battery life).
