Mk3 series ECG/EKG function really missing? :(

I am very disappointed. I made the mistake of not checking the description so thoroughly before buying.
But it is almost 2000 usd for the price of a watch! Did Garmin really have to leave out a health feature like ECG/ECG?!
It's also a joke that it doesn't support NFC payments - but whatever - I'll manage with my phone.
However, ekg/ecg is a shame it wasn't included.
Is it expected to get this feature later with some update or should I bring this device back?

  • obviously you did not research well enough - for the ecg is required the latest 5th version of the sensors. and mk3 comes with v4, as it was commented in another post. So it will never come to mkr... and payments are supported, not sure how you decided they are missing???

  • I don't know anything about 5th versions and v4... Where can you find real information about which version of sensors your device is equipped with? Tell You the truth  I thought that as this is a brand new model it should include this (ecg/ekg) feature. I didn't think a brand new model would be fitted with older version sensors.
Regarding pay-function, Your right it is indeed in the spec. it was chatgpt who said that the watch does not have this feature.. ;) so I was wrong about that. But I guess the ECG will never be in this unfortunately... :(

  • Next time check product description on Garmin site instead of using Google or Chat GPT.
Regarding ECG function, yes, it is related to hardware and due to this Descent 3 in current spec will not have this functionality.

  • The pay function was just a side note, I wasn't particularly interested. It's nice to see that it works at least.
However, the lack of ECG is pretty bad for a brand new expensive premium model. :(

  • By curiosity, for what you will use this ECG function?
It is not like ECG doctors does, it is only one line and don't work full time.
Do you have knowledge to interpret such reading?

Of course it's pity that Descent don't have newest OHR sensor but making this as a reason I will not buy it is ridiculous.
Always will be difference between different models because development time for such is different and also different target customers.
I'm using now Fenix 7 and will switch to Descent 3 as soon as Garmin add it to their trade in trade up program.

  • However, the lack of ECG is pretty bad for a brand new expensive premium model

The Descent line is and always was based on the previous generation of Fenix watches. The reason for that is simple - the development and especially the certification process is much much longer at diving computers than at ordinary smart watches. The development of MK3 started way before the last generation of HR sensors, supporting the ECG, was available.

Never expect the same features at Descent as available at the newest top models. And that is true not only for the hardware components, but also for software features - the development, testing, and certification of new firmware versions is a much more complicated process, and it takes longer for new features to make their way into a new firmware release for the Descent.

  • Does Garmin actually have a trade in program for these devices? A comment by a Garmin employee said it wasn't available. I'd like to trade in my Mk2 for a Mk3i.

  • Doubt they have such a thing in Europe, if there is any trade in it’ll be available in the States. I also would have liked if. Fortunately enough I had bought my mk2i recently so I got to sell it pretty fast and at a good price.

  • Yes, they have it.
But your old device need to be old to be included into it.
My Fenix 3 is and I'm waiting January when Descent 3 will be in trade in program.
Best what you can do is to call support and ask.

  • It is available in Europe but not for all old devices.
Your device need to be out of all Garmin support.
