Is there a way to check battery health?

Hi,

In the last few months I started to not the day/time after I will charge 100% my Expedition Marq and how long till the next charge, and irrespective of the weeks, I would get a consumption of 20% per day which I find very much.

So I believe the battery health of my 2 years watch has degraded and I wonder if there is a way to check through any means how much juice it gets.

Thanks,

Meste

    Has Pulse Ox been enabled?

  • Only over the night, but it was like this since the beginning

  • I am replying to this thread hoping to bring it into the attention of anyone who may know a way to check battery health status of Garmin watches (Fenix 6 or 7 etc). Thanks

  • Contact Garmin Support. It is possible you have a defective item.

FWIW the battery health on my Marq Athlete that I've had since launch is fine.

  • I don't believe you can check the battery health in a similar manner as an iPhone. The only way - as far as I have figured out - is to keep a log of how the battery percentage changes depending on your usage. A while ago I kept track of the battery discharge of my now 2.5 year old Marq Expedition. I always keep it in battery saver mode (with OHR and activity tracking enabled) or in flight mode, unless I am logging an avtivity. I sync after activities and sometimes omce more during the day.

I kept a log of discharge rate from 91% to 4%, with an average of 1 hour non-GPS activity per day (treadmill, rowing machine, crosstrainer, strenght w. reps counting). I got 17 days with this usage. Or some 5.1 % per day including one hour non-GPS activtity (HR strap) and BT sync once or twice per day. No smartwatch functions, no pulse OX, but full activity and OHR tracking.

For all my Garmin devices I have observed that battery discharge is non linear. For example, in the interval 75% down to 65% discharge is faster than from 60 to 50, where it is very slow. From 40 down to 30 it is more than twice as fast. But across the entire range, 100 to 0 specs seems to be met. I recently ran my Fenix 5 (shortly 5 years old) from full to empty with GPS on. It lasted some 23:50 hours, not far from the 24h specification.

I know that batteries ages both from use and age, so things may change for my devices. But a 20% draw per day is way too much. Have you tried to run your watch in battery saver mode, to see what happens if the watch is not connected to your phone? And no pulse OX.

Otherwise, I would agree with Philip, and say that your battery may be bad.
