Odd Average Pace in Training Plan and What Are Laps?

I've never used Garmin coaching plans, but figured why the heck not, I'll give it a try. It's good for motivation and maybe it'll help me accomplish some goals by keeping me on track.

In any case, I started a half marathon coaching plan with Coach Greg and did an easy run this morning. Here was the scheduled workout:

  • Warmup - 5 min
  • Run - 5 min
  • Run - 15 min
  • Cool Down - 5 min

Here is the activity. When I finished, this was the Interval breakdown:

After, I was trying to figure out why on earth it showed me as running an average pace of 10:03 for laps 2-4 and 3:45 for laps 5-6? My pace was pretty steady around 7:30 during each. Then I see all of the 'laps' and have no idea what they are. I ran 3.88 miles. 6 laps?

  • What defines a lap?
  • Why would a lap of 1 mile (lap 5) be tracked at an average pace of 2:32? Definitely not.
  • How could another lap (lap 4) last five minutes with no mileage when I never stopped?

Thanks for the help.

  • Do you use a footpod for pace?  If not, I would.  I never had a problem with paces after starting to use one.  Make sure you set all activities (outdoor and indoor) to always and not gps based.

  • I think it's a bug, and a recent one. I did a run yesterday from a workout from Training Peaks where MARQ created two laps each 1 sec, immediately following real workout laps, i.e. I had 5 miles easy followed by 2 miles marathon pace followed by cooldown, and 5 and 2 were followed by those weird 1 sec laps.

Nothing like this exists in Training Peaks. I didn't press any buttons. And yes, I do have Stryd and it drives both pace and distance.
