MARQ General Question About 'Specialist' Functions...

Hello!

I have a Fenix 6 Pro and have been toying with the MARQ for some time but the issue I have is that I really wanted a ceramic bezel version for durability. Had the Driver been ceramic, that would have been my go-to and the special features would have had a practical purpose; however, no such luck!

This leaves me with the Aviator and the Captain (I have ruled out the Golfer because of the Green).

My question is, without getting hands-on with them, how intrusive are the specialist features? I assume you can have any face you want, which means the special features are just options in the main menu? In other words, they are really all the same watch but with an extra app added and different bezels, pushers and straps.

TIA

  • I have the F6 Pro and it lays in a drawer and I use the Aviator.  The functions you refer to can be neutered in settings quite easily.  The Aviator is somewhat different at the engineering level and is excluded from playing in the beta test games.  My Aviator is configured to look and feel exactly like the Fenix 6 functionally, except that the Marq watches are much different in look and feel.

  • Thank you - I did assume that was the case based on the simple cost of production and software development; it simply wouldn't have been cost effective to have to create bespoke software for each version of the MARQ.

As an aside, how do you find the MARQ wears compared to the Fenix 6P?

The MARQ is sold as a watch you can wear at all times but I know from the Fenix (s) I've owned that they don't fit comfortably under a shirt cuff, so have always been relegated to casual wear.

  • Ah, good question.  I call it "shake-down."  I have almost always worn Rolex's Submariner.  Give a little shake and the watch slides toward your wrist and out from under a cuff.  Raise your arm and it slides back and 99% of the people never saw you check time.  The Aviator is way better than the Fenix (in Ti), but not quite as smooth as the Rolex.  There are a few subtle edges that make a small difference.  Also the Rolex is a touch heavier.   I am a retired Air Force officer so the Aviator gets my attention.  It will never, emotionally, replace the Submariner but it is pretty decent.  I have no use case for the silicone sticky bands.  You cannot shake them down without a single person being aware.  By and large my sensors work just fine with the Aviator band set to "shake-down" size.  As for how it wears---I much prefer it but this is a subjective snake pit.  The Fenix is rather clunky though functionally it is very similar.  I thought the Aviator buttons were a bit over the top and geeky looking but I have grown used to them and they work better (for me) than the more discreet Fenix buttons.

  • While ‘shake-down’ is a good way to check the time it also means that the 24/7 monitoring is likely to be affected as clearly the watch is not being worn as securely as needed. It’s a trade off of course, unless you get shirts with bigger cuffs Slight smile

  • I can assure you that Driver's bezel is made of ceramic.

To be more precise concerning the ceramic bezel, it is not fully ceramic but un ceramic surounded by a tiny ring of titanium. That is to say, that it can face bings and dings in front of it, but not on its sides.

Concerning software, and coming from F6Pro, special features are nothing but goodies included in a F6Pro core. It's a fully fonctionnal F6.

  • Reference the Driver bezel, that is very strange. When the MARQ first came out, there was a lot of talk about how the Driver bezel (the face of it) marked and scratched very easily. The conversation centred around how the bezel on the Driver was DLC. DLC, imho, is the worst of both worlds because not only does it scratch but when it does, the lighter metal underneath shows through.

A ceramic bezel, as found in the Rolex Daytona, would have been the ideal solution.

  • Let me share with you my own experience with Marq Driver. I've recently proceeded  for an exchange, because of double click button which became worst in time. The bezel of the original one, was completly different from the second (replacement) one to another. The newest one is far more glossy, and scratch resistant too. Like if it was a different one, which i really like. Garmin support is on top as far as Marq is concerned.

  • Interesting - thank you.

My local Marq dealer is showing the bezel as titanium on their web site and when I called them, reiterated the same thing.

I wonder if Garmin have amended the spec during the production run?
