Experience with the hybrid titanium strap for running?

Has anyone used any of the following watch straps?

  • Hybrid Titanium/Silicone Bracelet Carbon Gray DLC
  • Vented Titanium Bracelet with Carbon Gray DLC Coating
  • Gray Vented Titanium

If so what are your opinions? For running, everyday and diving?

I am sitting on the sidelines, I will be getting a Garmin but really want the Descent Mk2 (as long as it has Air Integration) and would be happy if it's re branded as a  MARQ Diver, but now that I have seen the American Magic, I am really torn as it's simply stunning, my fall back was going to be a Fenix 6.

But I am wondering how the titanium holds up when running (really the question si how well does the HRM work if the watch slides)

  • I'm currently recovering from injury so doing graduated walk-run sessions; currently on six times 1:30 walk then 3:30 run (so 30 minutes total).  Having read this post I thought I'd give it a whirl with my Fenix 6X Pro Solar on my left wrist connected to my HRM-Tri (teal in the charts below) and my MARQ Athlete with hybrid titanium band on my right wrist (purple in the charts).  The cadence chart clearly shows the run sections.  The oddness of the WHR in the first 2 minutes seems to be a fairly normal phenomena with WHR.  Whilst it's not quite as good as previous tests I've done like this with the silicone band, the off bits are fairly brief and probably acceptable for most people.

I've previously posted pics and a short video of what the hybrid band is like here https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/marq-series/220966/titanium-straps/1045992#1045992

  • Thank you Crispin, that was really helpful. good luck with the recovery and your heart rate looks good Slight smile

How tight do you wear the band? for an everyday use I tend to have mine loose enough to slide a finger under the band and when running much tighter but looking at your other video (also very useful) it seems its more designed to be tight and stretch as needed.

For me the HR is more a guide to see if I am going to hard on a long run (or slacking off on a short one).

  • How tight do you wear the band?

It’s as shown in the video, but is by no means really tight. The reason I can get slightly better HR results with the pure silicone band, is that I will tighten that one notch from a comfortable all-day fit, when I start an activity. The hybrid titanium band is not practical to frequently adjust like that, so I have set it to be comfortable 24/7. That said, the hybrid band is less stiff than the MARQ silicone band, so what is comfortable all-day (and sometimes worn overnight) still works OK during running and cycling. What wouldn’t work is fitting the hybrid band like a normal metal band that had no give; the hybrid band should be worn just a little tighter. Essentially it needs to be just tight enough that it won’t slip over the boney protrusion on the outside of your wrist (the end of the ulna bone), at normal room temperature (temp does have a big part in how tight or loose a band is).

  • That makes sense and from what I gather it will be more like my existing watch where there is a spring in the clasp so it's a bit tighter than normal but the spring gives it the flexibility that is required.

Thank you for sharing, this is helping me, now I just have to wait and see if they release the Descent Mk2.

Sorry, I can’t help with that one. If you pick up a crystal ball, that might do the trick Laughing
