REQUEST: copy flying sport profiles (.fit files), ZIP and upload

Hey all!

Would a MARQ Aviator owner be so kind as to tell us what type of flying apps are available on their device? I know there's "Fly" and probably "Jumpmaster". Anything specific to Paragliding etc?

We've noted some sport/activity profiles are transferable between watch models. (example: the "Indoor Track" activity from a Forerunner 945 works on the Forerunner 45 when copied over)

Some of us "plebes" with the Fenix 6 would like to test other sport profiles like "Fly" if someone would be so kind as to ZIP the .fit file and upload it. (it's in the "Sports" sub-folder on the device, accessible when connected to a computer)

  • I don’t think that will work. The aviator as well as the d2 have a host of settings around aviation, so without also having those (they appear to be baked into the firmware and not present on other models) I don’t think the aviation app will work

Aviation things in general are very peculiar with limitations and safety rules and type-specific ratings (probably so things can be made 10 times more expensive) so I’d be amazed if garmin wouldn’t have blocked these features to a specific model

(I am away from a computer at the moment)

  • Oh and to answer your question, it has the following:

    METAR widget

NEXRAD app (map app with NEXRAD overlay)

NRST app (DB of nearest airports / VOR / waypoints that then opens fly app with navigation)

DIRECT TO app (same as NRST but allows to enter where you want to go to)

FLY app (main aviation app with flying specific screens and fields, and flight navigation)

you can download the jumpmaster app onto it also

oh, and it has Connext capabilities which allow transfer of flight plans etc (either to garmin pilot, or direct communication to aircraft panel mounts via FlightStream (which is a 100 times more expensive bluetooth connection), and act as gps source for connected systems

Yeah, I totally get that: I'm an airline pilot. ;)

I'm less interested in a D2 or MARQ Aviator as I wouldn't integrate them into my cockpit flow anyway. (EFIS & backup steam-gauges are perfectly fine)

No, I was more interested in some kind of integrated tracking for paragliding, wingsuit flying etc. It seems like Garmin has a gap here - they have a tonne of sport types in Connect that have no corresponding app on watches.

Looks like third-party apps are it - "GliderSK" (which hasn't been updated lately) and "Flying".

  • Yes agreed, the fly things are of limited usefulness in an electronic cockpit, they’re more of a gimmick (I basically use the metar widget)

The fly app would probably be of limited utility to a paraglider, but you’re absolutely correct, garmin has a large gap here in available apps.

there are a number of 3rd party apps in the connect store, but I can’t comment really on them.

once I get back to a PC I will try to copy the fly app for you!

  • Hello Otto-Destruct,

thank you for this Post! After seeing this folder in the explorer I had the same idea!

Unfortunately, I don't have a Fenix 6 otherwise I would help you out.

Otherwise, I would like to ask you if you could provide the ski touring and the triathlon activity, this would be awesome!

    Thank you in advance!
