Passive OHR while recording on an Edge

Did a short indoor cycling session yesterday and was hoping that by wearing the Athlete I would get some intensity minutes racked up.

I recorded the activity with an Edge 530 and the watch didn't even see that my heart rate increased during the workout ->

Now, the activity did sync back down to the watch and my heart rate during the workout looked like this ->

So clearly the watch should have at least noticed an increase in heart rate... It does not even show the recovery time that was reported by the Edge 530, so I'm thinking that TrueUp isn't working either. Anyone else seeing this behaviour?

  • Hmm, I wonder if it's something to do with the recording interval for OHR when not in an activity? Garmin do note that there is a difference between the two modes of operation. The GCM chart covers a 24h period whereas your activity is slightly over 30 minutes. If, and this might be a big if, the OHR is averaging readings over (figure out of the air here) 10 minutes, then it is possible that one of those spikes represents that average.

Does this help answer your question about PhysioTrueUp - https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=EjPECQK58qA0xzJ5X74vm7&productID=633625&searchQuery=trueup&tab=topics

    Point to note there is

"*NOTE: Recovery Time will only update when both devices being used have the Physio TrueUp feature enabled. "

  • I suppose averaging over a figure out of the air could be a reason, but I still think it should have read higher. I have several spikes throughout the day that are just as high, but I certainly did not have above 170bpm hr earlier in the day.

Both units have TrueUp enabled, and it used to work during the summer when I did all my rides outside..
