Strange decision for Garmin re PacePro

After using PacePro for several times I can now say with a high degree of certainty that even if I use a FP for my running pace, the PacePro screen is not using it and rely only of GPS pace. If this may work relatively well on flat with clear sky visibility, in trail conditions under trees, relying on GPS pace is a bad decision.

Ideally the user could decide which pace to use, or, if this is not possible, I would prefer by far FP pace in any condition.

Maybe Garmin is listening to these posts and does something about it.

And you know/tried this:

"You can set your device to calculate speed and distance using your foot pod data instead of GPS data.

1. 1 Hold MENU.
2. 2 Select Sensors & Accessories.
3. 3 Select your foot pod.
4. 4 Select Speed.
5. 5 Select an option:
  - Select Always to use your foot pod data regardless of the GPS setting."

Thanks for this. Of course I know how to use my FP. As I said Garmin ignored the FP pace although it was set as you mentioned.

Oh, I see. This is a tricky one as I think GPS is required for fixed points as PacePro is map based. But interesting to see how they fix this.

(Do you have distance set for GPS? I think it should be and should work so but seems not working.)

I m not specialist in this. I just thought for Distance FP should be Off or Indoor to enable GPS for it. Anyways it is best to log a case as suggested.

Don’t assume Garmin reads these posts. Contact Garmin directly to log a case in their system. Let us know what the response is.

I think what was meant is do you have foot pod set to Distance>Always? It's long been standard behavior for Garmin watches to use the Distance source for lap pace and interval pace in a workout; instance pace is not used.

All that said, the previous comment about Pace Pro being based on a course may mean that it forces distance to come from GPS regardless of the foot pod sensor setting.

Same issue as with foot pod and FirstBeat metrics. No matter if both speed and distance is set to foot pod, you won’t be able to trigger the FirstBeat metrics with GPS disabled.

I even tried running on the treadmill with GPS enabled, which didnt’t trigger the algorithms either, which tells me GPS speed/distance is what goes into the calculations no matter what’s presented on the display. Really frustrating!
