It’s not just about “features”. It about the materials used and quality of the craftsmanship. The whole case is titanium, not just the bezel. The buttons just feel high quality in comparison to the Fenix…

Does anyone know Garmin's strategy here? I've been using a Tactix Charlie, and it's great piece of kit, though honestly the only serious point of difference is the backlight, which can be made very dim…

Does anyone know if the Commander is 5 series or 6 series based ?

It’s firmly aligned to the Fenix 6 (I wouldn’t be surprised if the Fenix 6S Pro software were not almost identical to the MARQ, given they share the same screen size and resolution). Why? Well the MARQ Commander has exactly the same public beta software as the other MARQ variants https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/marq-series/206974/marq---5-64-beta-release and the MARQ beta change logs have always been identical to the Fenix 6 https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-6-series/206973/fenix-6-series---4-64-beta-release (the main software version numbering is always one whole number more for the MARQ though). This was exactly the case when the Chronos came out slightly ahead of the Fenix 5; software updates were identical between the watches despite the difference in whole numbers of the versions.

I've collected the SKUs mentioned in the different GarminDevice.xml here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mbirth/gcd-parser/master/HARDWARE-SKUs.md . If somebody could provide the values for the 945, MARQ and Fenix 6 series, we'd be a bit wiser.

But AFAIK, the F6 has a larger display than the MARQ and 945. Compared to the 945, the MARQ has more storage. So those 3 watches are not exactly identical as it was with the e.g. F5X/D2 Charlie/Descent Mk1.

That's very interesting. However your chart seems to show that NON Pro 6 models have twice the storage of the Pro and even the MARQ models ? That cant be right can it ?

Software to run the watches can be identical even if the features of the watches are different.
