Missing metrics during activities

Hi All,

I usually do workouts such as Kettlebell, Calisthenics or Yoga without wearing the watch but using a HRM Tri Heart Rate strap during the exercise/practise.

The strap stores the HR values even if there is no direct connection to the watch and after the workout it downloads the data from the strap.

However, when the HR strap and the watch are far from each other, workout and health data based on HR/HRV are not available even after the sync even though the strap stores these information and after the download these metrics could be re-calculated.

This is the Yoga workout I did with the missing metrics:

Also, Health metrics are missing during the activity:

The marked area with red when I used the strap during the linked activity, with blue when I just started Walk activities with wearing the watch but there was still no stress measurement during the activity.

My question is if these are normal behaviors or issues that Garmin needs to address? ?

Thank you,
Zoltan

  • I just wonder if the watch is switching to WHR when the HRM Tri is out of range, thus not using the latter downloaded HR from the HRM Tri as  it already has some (wrong) WHR data. Maybe go in to the Sensor & Settings and turn off WHR completely before you try this again. I believe this is why there is a specific option to turn on/off WHR whilst swimming, now that WHR whilst swimming is available.

  • Thank you, Crispin, good idea I am going to try it tomorrow.

  • Hi Crispin and ,

Yesterday and today I tired your suggestion and turned off the OHR before the workouts and used the HRM Tri strap.

Yesterday, I did an 'Other' activity and the HRM Tri was in the range at all time, this way the watch recorded Health Metrics based on the HRM strap:

Today, I did a Yoga practice, OHR off, Tri strap in on, however it wasn't in the range, after I started the activity, I left the watch in my bag and went to another room. When finished, the watch downloaded the HR data from the strap, however there is no Health Metrics for that period and there is no Stress and Respiration Rate data in the recorded activity either.

Your comment was marked by  as a solution, but unfortunately it's not the case as the stored HR data is not used as a source for either Stress/RR in the activity or in the Health Metrics.

    Thank you,
    Zoltan

  • Sorry, I should have added that the all-day HR (Heart Rate) only pulls from wellness data recorded by only a wrist HR sensor.

I personally had to check this fact and found more information on the following Support Article:

My Day and All Day Shows Lower Max HR Than from a Recorded Activity

  • Thank you, !

Is it still the case? Just asking because the on the first picture I added in my previous comment (see below) you can see that there is wellness data recorded during the marked activity. The watch was on the table right in front of me during the activity, I did not wear it, only the HRM Tri strap. According to this it's definitely not coming from the OHR sensor.

  • Could it be that if the watch is getting the HR data 'live' from the HRM Tri then that is recorded to the wellness data area, but if the HR data form the HRM Tri is uploaded after the event then it is only recorded to the activity file but not to wellness data?  That would explain what you have observed.
