Sleep PulseOX works only for 4 hours

Hi All,

I have just noticed that my MARQ Expedition records only 4 hours of sleep PulseOX data exactly between 23:50 and 03:50 regardless when I go to sleep.

I have found an 8 months old thread in the Fenix 5 Plus forum where users reported the same behavior with the same time period. Even the minute of the hour was the same (50) only the hours were different but I suppose it was due to the timezone settings.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thank you,
Zoltan

  • This is not an issue but by design. PulseOx during sleep only measures during 4 hours to conserve battery life. The exact start and end times depend on sleep/setup of standard sleep times

  • Hi claude512,

Thank you for your reply, I couldn't find any reference in the documentation of this behavior.

However, it seems like a quite weird implementation to me for two reasons. First, it does not measure the PulseOX values for 4 consecutive hours, it only does exactly until 3:50 even if I go to bed at 2:00. According to your comment in that case it should do the measurement until 6:00 (or at least until 5:40 which is my wake up time in the settings).

Secondly, in this 4 hours period the watch does the measurement in every minutes which, I think, is rather pointless especially that only half of the sleep time is covered. In my opinion, it would be much more useful to get the samples in every 2-3 minutes then, which allows us a still acceptable granulation as well as continuous measurements throughout the night.

I would be interested what do you, Garmin users, think about this.

    Thank you,
    Zoltan

  • Oh, that is different from what mine does, it measure quite continuously during the 4 hours for me!
