Unable to pair Expedition to Phone

I've had my Expedition for a couple months.  Everything worked great, but some time over the weekend the watch and phone (Pixel 2 XL) lost their connection.  I've since tried everything to get the two talking to each other again, but nothing works.

Each time I put the watch in pairing mode and then click "Add Device" in the Connect app, the following happens:

  1. Tap "Add a Device"
  2. Starting setup screen appears...
  3. "Ready to Connect to your MARQ Expedition screen appears"
  4. Tap "Connect It"
  5. System prompt to "Link Connect to MARQ Expedition" appears
  6. Tap OK
  7. "Connecting your MARQ Expedition" screen appears with progress bar around the 10% mark.
  8. Nothing happens for while
  9. Pairing failed screen with Retry button appears

So far I've:

  1. Turned the phone off, and back on
  2. Turned the watch off, and then back on
  3. Reset watch
  4. Swear a lot

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Try uninstalling the GCM application and then re-installing it. If the problem persists, then I’d contact Garmin Support.

  • Look into the bt settings of your phone. If your Marq is still listed, delete it and start a new pairing.

Thanks, I tried that as well, but it didn't work. Forgetting and re-pairing did work...for a while.

Thanks for your reply. There's definitely something fishy going on.  My MARQ didn't appear as a "previously connected device" on my phone until I put the watch in Pairing mode.  It then appeared on my phone so I could "Forget" the bluetooth connection and was then able to connect to the app successfully.  Overnight, the connection dropped again and I had to go through the whole process again.
