MARQ Expedition Battery and HR recording

Hi Everyone,

I received my MARQ Expedition last week so I keep testing it but I have two questions for the MARQ users/Garmin.

Battery: I charged the watch overnight and removed from the charger today at 7am, battery was 100%. I did a 1-hour workout with an HRM-Tri strap and after that I used the Music app for approximately 35 minutes while commuting. By 11am the battery went down to 91%. Is that normal? I think it's way lower than it should be according to the specifications.

HR recording: I am also experiencing gaps on the Heart Rate and Respiration Rate graphs with a brand new HRM-Tri strap which I think supposed to store the data even if there is no connection between the watch and the HRM sensor. However, there wasn't any disconnect during the workout, the watch was right in front of me all the time.

I would really appreciate any feedback or view on it.

Thank you,
Zoltan

  • I have Athlete, so my mileage would arguably vary...

    1) I'd give the battery a few discharge cycles before drawing any conclusions. I think you should expect 10-12% battery drain per hour if (and it's a big if) you have GPS, sensors like Stryd, OHR, and music. The full house. For a simple workout with a strap, it should definitely be less. That being said, I noticed every now and then the watch following a workout would drain the battery at a higher rate. Reboot usually fixes that.

    2) I'm using Polar H10, seeing an occasional break but nothing of the type you have. Again, might be the environment or interference. I'd try to do a similar workout elsewhere to eliminate that possibility.

  • I would not be unduly concerned about the battery life with what you are reporting. Give it a few more days of use and get a feel for how different things impact the battery life differently. Certaily, playing music is a bit of a battery hog. My discharge rate for activities using GPS and chest strap is around 3.5 to 4% per hour, chuck in some music on the top of that and 9% drop is not unrealistic.

As for the HR data. I've been seeing small breaks in my chest strap data like that for years. Neve gotten to the bottom of it. JFYI, the HRM-Tri will store heart rate, but that is only really designed for use when swimming and the data cannot be transferred to the watch at the time. After a swim you get to upload the HR data.
