Impossible to map "Change Sport" to any of the Hot Keys

Title says it all, I can't map "Change Sport" to any of the Hot Key buttons on my Aviator (FW 3.40). Of course I can select it, it just doesn't work when I press on the actual button. Others options seem to work just fine - e.g. I can assign "Wallet" or "Phone" to the "Hold Start" and it works when I press on that button, same if I use "Hold Back".

"Change Sport", a seldom use function on a fitness watch fore sure, cannot be effectively mapped to any button - nice !

At the price your are selling these watches, you could at least hire one person to do actual QA.

  • I was able to get "Change Sport" Hot Key to work, but I could see where someone thinks it does not work since you will need to be in an activity to use this feature.

Start an activity, then press and hold your Hotkey, it will give you a list of activities, and you can choose from the list.  You can go back to your first activity or choose a next by doing the same thing again.

If you get the message 'Hold during activities to switch to another sport.', that means the activity has not been started.

  • How about some consistency with your other devices such as the Fenix 5 and Forerunner 945? To start an activity on those, you simply press on the "START/STOP" button and select the type. The way you described it, for the Marq we have a "Change Sport" option *IN PROGRESS*, something nobody will use unless they are triathletes or made a mistake in the 1st place when selecting the type. To actually start an activity, which I do all the time, with a Marq now I have to press + hold "UP/MENU" + scroll down to "Activities & Apps" to do what I used to do with a simply click.

  • I did just double check the fenix 5 and fenix 5 plus, and they all work the same way.  To use the Change Sport Hot Key option, you have to be an activity because you can change that activity/sport.

Since I believe I am still missing something here, I wonder if you have looked into setting an activity as a favorite.  That would allow you to put the activity types you most use in the order you want and even have the most important first.

To do this, Menu > Activities & Apps > (Scroll to your preferred activity) > Set as Favorite > (Use up or down to move it to fit the order you desire)

  •  I don't own a MARQ, but on every Garmin watch I have ever used or seen, you start an activity by pressing START at the watchface. Then you're presented with a list of activities to choose from. Scroll to the activity you want and press START again.

As Garmin-Heath pointed out, there is a group of favorite activities which appear at the top of the list. On my 935, if I choose an activity from the favorites, then the next time I press START from the watchface, the previous activity is already selected.

So you should be able to start your favorite activity with as little as 2 clicks.

If none of this stuff is working, I'd say that something is seriously wrong with your watch -- either that or the MARQ is completely different from all other Garmin watches.

This statement is quite critical, as it suggests that you are not seeing a list of activities when you press the Start/Stop button. Holding the Up/Menu button only gets you to the Activities & Apps settings (exactly the same as the Fenix 5, Fenix 5+ and 935); you can’t start an activity that way.

The reason you are missing a list of activities when you press the Start/Stop button is most likely because you skipped (possibly unconsciously) the adding activity apps stage when the watch was brand new. To rectify this, all you need to do is press the Start/Stop button, Press Up and select “+ Add” and add the first activity you want to see.  Keep doing this until all the activity apps you expect to use are in the list. Alternatively you can add/remove activities using GCM or Garmin Express.

Perhaps the confusion with all the previous answers was because you were asking about the Change Sport hotkey feature; which is most definitely for those who want to do a user defined Multisport activity in real time and on the fly. What you are actually seeking is the normal Start an activity function, which is no different on the MARQ to other recent Garmin watches, it’s just the list of activities seems to be absent on your MARQ unit.

(I even wondered if the Aviator had some special function assigned to the Start/Stop button, that made it different in the way you start an activity, but having looked at the MARQ Aviator manual https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/marqaviator/EN-US/GUID-90B3EF66-C7DC-4BB5-A1A3-C07E1E9E7A57.html , it should work the same way as the Athlete version I have.)

EDIT - Adding a video at the link below to show how activities can be added to the menu that should appear when you press the Start/Stop button from the watch face. Hope that helps.
