Help on using Garmin Marq Expedition

Hi,

I just bought a Garmin Marq Expedition watch yesterday in Melbourne, Australia. It looks very nice. When I started to use it, I found two issues:

a. When I connect it to my MacBook Pro, it doesn't show as an external device. However, I can still use Garmin Express to manage it. I just cannot see it in file directory as I did before on Garmin Fenix 5. Is this normal?

b. Garmin Pay doesn't show as an option on Garmin Connect Mobile. I attempted to set up Garmin Pay on another Garmin Forerunner 945 watch with no success. That watch was returned to shop. Did that prevent me from setting Garmin Pay on this new Garmin Marq watch?

I raise them to Garmin support team and wait for their reply. Meanwhile, I wonder if anyone has insight on these two issues. Can anyone advise?

Daniel

  • Hi Daniel,

I can really only help with A:

If the MARQ series is like the 5+ lineup, then it will NOT show up as an external drive when connected to a MAC. Garmin has stated this. It will though show up if you connect to a Windows computer.

  • There is a program called Android File Transfer that you need to install on your Mac to see the newer Garmin watches as a storage device. This is because Apple doesn't   support MTP storage and the new music watches use MTP to limit access to the music files..

  • Thanks, Odie21. And yes, to confirm, this is 100% the case. I spoke with Garmin about it as well.

  • and do. or forget to close garmin express when using android file transfer...and vice versa

  • Garmin Pay is a bit hidden for some people in the Garmin Connect Mobile app.

First, pair your MARQ and your phone together.

Plug your device into your computer and run Garmin Express to get your device tied to your Garmin Connect Account.  This will also ensure the device's software is up to date too (Make sure you close Android File Transfer so Express can see the MARQ, Thank your for this reminder.  Also since you are on a Mac, remember to eject the device by placing it in the trash.)

Open the Garmin Connect App and select the menu option (Three lines or dots.)

    Select Garmin Devices

    Select your MARQ device

Select Garmin Pay > Create Your Wallet

There is more information about Garmin Pay and your MARQ in the manual.

  • Follow up to this.  Garmin Pay will only work on the device that the phone connects to first.  I believe that you do not have the Forerunner any longer, but if you do, turn off the Bluetooth that device.  Close Garmin Connect Mobile, and reopen it so it can pair to your MARQ first.

(If you have returned the Forerunner, but haven't restarted your phone or closed the app since then, please try the steps above.)

  • Odie21,

    Thanks. This solves my concern.

  • I finally found the issue with Garmin Pay was from my Garmin account. When I use a new account, I can set up Garmin Pay properly on my Marq Expedition. It works very well.
