Marq Anaerobic status

I have been doing in the last weeks since I got Expedition and before that with Fenix 5, about 4-5 runs per week. Or of these, two are intervals in HR Z4 and fewer in Z5, between 3-10 minutes each, about 3-5 intervals per run.

However, with only one exception I get no anaerobic benefit. The exception was one run two days ago when I got 0.2 benefit after 5 intervals of 8 minutes in Z4.

Is this expected?

  • I ran 13.5km yesterday doing 5 intervalls. Overall I spend 24% in Z4 and 1% in Z5 and my Marq Athlete rated me 3.0 anaerobic benefit.

I don't know how your zones are defined. My lactate threshold heart rate is the beginning of Z4. So I spent 25% of the training at or above LS heart rate.

  • My LT is set at the end of Z4, but Garmin set it up as such. I wonder if that is the culprit...

I spent 11% in Z4 and 16% in Z5 and still no Anaerobic benefit.

  • I've always had a hard time getting Anaerobic TE. Basically for me the best results tend to be 1m or 90 second all out intervals. I typically have to do 10-12 of these to get an anaerobic TE of 3, which seems like a lot of work for a low TE. At the end of that session i'm worked no matter what the watch says.

  • I checked and the max HR was too much. Besides that the zones are ok. Garmin sets up the zones based on LT and in my case the LT is at the end of Z4

  • That is likely my issue as well. I haven't hit the MaxHR listed in my profile in a solid year. I *might* still be able to hit that value, but it would take some very serious effort. It was a lot easier when i was out of shape.

  • I found the culprit. The new watch red my history and took the max HR too high (I had a run with a HR error) so I amended the max HR to my known value and last run I got nice anaerobic value :-)
