MARQ Expedition Strap condition in 2 weeks

Hey guys,

I wonder what was your experience with Expedition Strap? in just 2 weeks that's how mine looks... And all I did just working with my Notebook.

  • Premium materials but not so premium, in this topic I have posted picture of my Aviator bracelet after just 1 week wearing, same as you, been looking after my watch...... https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/marq-series/162890/marq---ui-sw-issues

  • I’m sure that’s why they included a secondary strap with the Expedition. I doubt the Leather strap is a long term “Daily Driver” type of strap.

  • I’ve said this a few times in different posts on this forum: As much as I love this watch, the strap is not high quality. The leather feels plastic and “fake.” It fits nicely and is not too stiff like most leather bands, but that’s about it. (I do love the silicone strap, though.)

I recommend buying a better leather strap elsewhere online. Etsy has a lot of great choices for under $50.

You will need different spring pins though, do not use the standard Garmin pins with a more traditional band, they are hard to remove with a tool.

I’ve been using the Garmin pins when I wear the silicone strap and using other pins with other straps.

I saw your pictures in an another thread, the leather band looks great. What kind of spring pins you are using and where did you get them? Is it difficult or does it take a lot of time to change pins and a band?

  • Just standard 22mm spring bars. You can get them from any jeweler, watch shop, or even just Amazon in the USA. (Though I'd worry about quality from Amazon.)

You'll also need a spring bar tool, but those are cheap and easy to come by. I bought a set of two for $6 online and they have lasted me for years. Some places sell you a tool and give you the bars for free.

The problem with the Gramin quick release bars is that they have access to the spring on the INSIDE of the bar, versus the outside where they connect to the watch bezel. So you cannot use these for a traditional strap as you won't be able to get them off easily with a different band on them.

After taking off the Garmin bands, you'll use the pointed end of a spring bar tool to take off the Garmin bars.

You can then add your new bars with your new strap using the spring bar tool and be able to take them on and off easily.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that you cannot, and should not, use normal pins with the Marq quick release bands. They do not fit well and will slide around more than normal. They might even fall off. But once you get used to taking off the spring bars it's a quick 1-2 min process and makes your watch look a hell of a lot classier.

    So in summary:

    • Use Garmin spring bars with the quick release band ONLY
    • Use standard watch straps with standard spring bars ONLY

Thanks Adam! Those are so good instructions that now everyone who is interested can change straps.

Hallo Adam, how about scratches at the titanium bezel and case after more than one month of use? I am afraid that titanium grade2 is not very scratch-resistant. I can not see it from your photos properly, but is it oK? Also people who own Athlete report very visible scratches on DCL coated bezel....

    Thanks

  • I have no scratches, yet. I have basically worn it 24/7 for 2 weeks now and it looks great.

I know this won't last, but I also know the titanium bezels and scratches can be touched up professionally.

By the way, the combination of Expedition with your leather strap looks great!
