MARQ Aviator - watch faces (disappointment)

Ok folks,

so I got my aviator last week and while the design is amazing I am really disappointed by the software.

I am not sure is down to the display quality or the actual graphics but all the watchfaces, widgets and applications are displayed as a cartoon movie instead of more premium polish (at least for the premium price tag you are paying).

Here is a recap: seems that from all the watchfaces, only the default aviator one is nicely polished with all the data properly aligning. If you are to select different one from the preinstalled ones .... well.... its a big mess, chronograph circles being cut, lines bold and not equal, text inside misaligned, graphics in general horrendous ....

in addition, some of the widgets have the data misaligned, take altitude widget, select hPa as measurement and it is all offset ...

this is just a heads up to the Garmin ppl, I know this is all software and eventually will/ can be fixed.

  • Unfortunately the same sh*t with the big lines happens to the borders of the data fields in activities as well - looks really ugly. And it seems to apply to all MARQs, I have an Athlete.

Also it is just a software glitch: Garmin - please - these high end watches deserve a higher quality.

  • I agree, after spending 2.5k I expect not only HW but SW to be well polished

  • At least as polished as their advertisements for these watches.

  • the amount of photoshop that has gone for those product images is amazing.... :D

  • I never have been unrealistic about the screen quality (as a long time garmin watch owner) - although I think they don't do themselves a favour by photoshopping the watchface pictures so massively.

The physical build quality is amazing - I absolutely love my Athlete!

  • I agree that the watch face aesthetics are lacking, but the core customization & functionality of the core watch face functionality is also suboptimal.  For instance, the GMT hand can only be set to UTC - this should be able to be set for any user selectable time zone, independent of UTC. That’s how all fine timepieces operate including my Omega - main hands set to time zone of your choice, GMT hand set to another time zone of your choice.  Also, should be able to select different colors for each time zone you have on the face (whether 1, 2, 3, or 4).  GMT hand should also be able to be added to ANY watch face, at least on the Aviator.

Expectations for MARQ are commensurate with those who own other fine timepieces, so functionality, attention to detail, and customer responsiveness need to be roughly on par with Swiss counterparts.  I love Garmin, the hardware appears top notch (aside from the clasp closure, which is not best of breed design) - so I trust that the company will aggressively address shortcomings through a process of continuous improvement & active solicitation of customer input.
