MARQ Athelete Should be MARQ Runner?

Now I've had this watch a few days, I can't help thinking that rather than being called the MARQ Athlete, Garmin should have called it the MARQ Runner as it's clear that that's where the bias lies in the features that differentiate this watch from the other MARQs - running VO2Max indicator and Total Run on watch face, and the one-touch fitness metrics (hold top right button) gives predictions for marathon, half, 10k and 5k. That's not to say that if you're primarily a runner/swimmer/other you're missing out on something you'd get on the other MARQs, but it's also true that unless you're a runner, the Athelete doesn't give you anything of any use that the others don't.

Still think it's a great watch and has lived up to all my expectations (so far!) but I hope Garmin will consider refocussing a bit on the other core activities in future firmware updates to better align its functionality to its name.
  • This is ecaxtly my thoughts too. I most certainly hope Garmin realizes there are other athletes out there that are not only runners. I'm glad a cancelled my order and are standing by to watch reactions...

    MARQ (Fore)Runner?

  • I'm sure Garmin does realise there are athletes out there who are not runners. I too would prefer to be able choose what sport to have on the display as I swim bike and run. However, it's not something that has deterred me from having a Marq Athlete.
  • Yeah, but you're ignoring the clue in the series name: the logic is solely based on MARQueting, not end use.

If the sailing one's a Captain, I'd have named the flying one a Pilot.

Or if the flying one's an Aviator, I'd have named the sailing one a Sailor.

And what's with the exploring one not being called an Explorer? Calling it an Expedition is like calling the sailing one a Voyage. Or the flying one a Flight.

Actually, who am I kidding -- I'd have named them Salty Sea Dog, FlyBoy, and Triumphant Colonialist Oppressor. But that's why I don't sell watches.
