Garmin Instinct Solar. SW 19.01 Auto Pause even when walking

Hi, my Garmin Instinct Solar (SW 19.01) set with Auto Pause does automatically stop when I am as an example go up a long stair on a hill.

The same situation when I have to go a steep hill in zigzag, it will go on Auto Pause and takes a longer time to switch back on.

The reason may be that the GPS than thinks that I am still on the same position.

But when Im walking up the stairs the step counter is very active. Shouldn't this be considered by the Software?

That's a good question. You could be also sitting, resting, drinking, and eating, keeping the arm swinging. It would then also consider you are not stopped. I'd tell if you do not like that the auto-stop triggers too easily, disable it, and pause the activity manually. You can also experiment with using the pace option of the auto-stop instead of the option "while stopped". It then uses the combination of GPS and the accelerometer to estimate your pace, so there is a chance it could actually work better than the option "while stopped". Such is my experience, at least. On the other hand, it still takes a while after the pause, before the activity is restarted anyway.

  • Hi Trux, thanks for your very good explanation, I didn't though about that easily triggering, When I walk around town and stand at the light signal it is very comfortable with the auto pause and works fine.

I will now try it with an auto pause and a custom speed of 1.60 km/h and see if it works for hiking.

    kind regards Paul
