Syncing files in .fit and not .gpx?

When I sync my Instinct watch after a hike, walk or whatever, I can't find the route or track in Explore on the map or even in the menu. When I find it in Connect, it's in .fit and for some reason, Explore doesn't like the file. Is there a setting in the watch to automatically save as .gpx? I am starting to think Garmin Explore is useless. I have the same problem syncing my 750i for the same reason.. And when I finally do find the file off my 750i, my track is all triangles and not the lines. Am I just stupid and missing something?  Thanks!

  • You can export any outdoor activity as a GPX file or save it as Course in Garmin Connect Web:

  • Not sure if this helps  but Explore (Android phone app) syncs OK for me, but I do have to open the app and then give it time to catch up with all my activities. I find Explore useful for offline maps and routes (or Courses - it does both!). Explore on my desktop similarly works fine.

So I'm guessing something is up, as you suggest, and I just hope it sorts itself out.

I recall a year or so ago, I couldn't get Explore to sync up activities and I removed and installed and waited... and waited.

Also, just to be clear, I sync via my phone using the Connect app, rather than a cable to the computer.
