Body battery

Anyone having issues with the body battery lately . To be honest since owning the tactical solar model for the last 2 months or so I find it never to be accurate at all . The heart rate seems accurate the step count could be more accurate but I’m not going to hate on it . It’s the body battery … I could honestly sleep an entire day and it won’t recharge . After reading forums upon forum , I’ve noticed many people speaking on this issue with various models . Some people say to check your stress levels etc mine are below 70 for the most part . My 7 day average is 43 . So it’s obviously not that. My sleep is fine as well all in the blue . The only way to somewhat get an accurate reading is to soft reset the watch nearly everyday . Anyone else having these issues who still follow this thread ? I’d like to hear other peoples input on this .

  • My 7 day average is 43 . So it’s obviously not that.

What makes you think so? Not sure how it is at others, but my Stress averages are usually around 25 or even below that. When the average weekly stress level climbs over 40, which is rather exceptional, then it is indeed in a quite stressful period, where I would definitely not expect the Body Batter to charge to 100%.

  • You must be a very calm man to remain in the 20s haha . They deem the 40s as low .. but regardless being charged 14 percent over a good sleeping period where my stress levels are not high during the day and my rest is proper makes absolutely no sense . I also workout and am in fairly good shape . I cross country ski about 40-50km a week . Overnight how much does your body battery charge on a average I get max 16-17 sometimes I see it charged 3 lol … this is why I’m asking the question I believe the body battery is busted .

  • … this is why I’m asking the question I believe the body battery is busted

I do not think it is busted. It works fine for me and for many others. However, it does not mean I do not believe you your BB does not work right. If the low BB is not caused by too much stress, or by the factors mentioned in the Body Battery FAQ (alcohol/stimulants, excessive physical activity, extreme temperatures, bright light/loud noises, infection/disease, pain, dehydration/indigestion, exhaustion), then the master reset to factory defaults is probably the only way to reset the data the watch learned about you (possibly wrongly), and start anew and establishing a new baseline for the measurements.

  • Ya I don’t fall into any categories you listed . so I guess I’ll give the old reset a try , you mean factory reset on the watch options ? Or is their another internal method ? Perhaps it’s the firmware I’m on18.54 ?

  • Yes, the reset in the watch menu. Can't advise about the firmware since I already gave away my Instinct, and use Instinct 2 now. But I follow this forum quite closely, and did not see any growing number of complaints about the BB in the last time.

  • Ok , I will update . However after the app update for iOS yesterday now it’s not even tracking my sleep says I was just stressed all night instead of sleeping lol . Here’s the photo

  • Not a problem of the app. It works fine. Either your HRV was really low (meaning high stress), or the watch was not able to detect the HRV properly, or the HRV baseline needs to be reset and reestablished. Did you already do the master reset to factory defaults?

  • I think the health stats are more indicative than absolute. I find the BB works well for me and I have noted that it neatly tracked my Covid infection last year (I posted an image somewhere here) - with me not 'recharging' well during sleep. My stress average is usually below 25, though with plenty of spikes during the day.

Edit: maybe I should add that I am a regular runner and cycle regularly.

  • Im going to be doing this today . And it’s never happen before to not detect my sleep at all . I always have blue when I’m sleeping . And I’m not stressed anymore than I’ve been since owning this watch . To reply to the other persons comments , as I said I’m in decent shape , I say this because I used to be in much better conditions while in the forces for the past 12 years . But I can still bike probably 30-40km rides with ease.  Either way I’ll do the reset see that gives I just find the activity on this watch is nutty , and reviewing forums on Garmin products I’ve seen the same stress issue come up while sleeping . A soft reset this morning put me back to 88 body battery from 2 .

    I’ll keep posted ….

  • A soft reset this morning put me back to 88 body battery from 2

A soft reset just sets some average starting value, that's not the real "charge" you have. If it goes down again in a few days, there is either something wrong with your heart beat, more precisely with the HR Variability, or the sensor has troubles to read your HR, or as already told, the HRV baseline needs to be reestablished (by the reset).
