How do we roll back to firmware 14.40???

Hello,

I wanted to post this as a separate thread, as I expect figuring this out is the best solution at this point.

If it is not too much trouble, could someone please post details on exactly how to roll back to 14.40, as that seems to be the only confirmed fix to the barometer/elevation issues at this point.

Here is what I am doing.
1. I went to this web site and downloaded 14.4: onedrive.live.com/
2. I opened the 14.4 zip folder.
3. Some here recommended installing the 14.2 system backdate first and then going to 14.4, so in the zip folder, I opened the subfolder "System_Backdate_1420". Inside is a file "GUPDATE.GCD" - I copied this to my watch at GARMIN > REMOTESW. (That is the folder I copy it to.)

At this point, I restarted the watch, but nothing happened. How do I get it to install????

Thanks for any help with this."

EDIT: I have the Instinct Solar, and in a message posted here, someone was saying that the link I provided is only for the Instinct (the non-Solar version). Anyone have the link for the Instinct Solar???

  • file "GUPDATE.GCD" - I copied this to my watch at GARMIN > REMOTESW.

This is the wrong folder. This file must be copied to the "Garmin" folder.

  • Thanks. And it seems that I need to find the archive for the Instinct Solar also... :-(

  • Here you go. But right, if you have a solar you also need the firmware for the solar variant.

  • Thank-you for starting this thread.

My watch is only 4 months old.  It was working fine until the beginning of July but I don’t know what sw it was running previously.  I would love to get this fixed now that I know it’s the watch.

My watch has 2 files (GARMEN directory and AUTORUN a file).

The GARMEN directory doesn’t show a system update or a system_backdate subfolder. The REMOTESW subdirectory has just 1 file called EPO.BIN.

In trying to fix this issue (trying different combinations of GPS setting) I reset my watch to its factory settings so maybe that’s why. Anyway…. Garmen Connect shows that I have software version 17.5 on my watch.

I downloaded the 14.4 files using the link and copied the GUPDATE.GCD file from the System_Backdate_1420 directory I downloaded into the GARMEN directory on my watch.  My watch now shows a System_Backdate_1420 directory with a GUPDATE.GCD file.

    Question:

Should I copy the GUPDATE.GCD file from the System_1440 directory to the GARMEN directory on or into the REMOTEESW (which still only has 1 file EBO.BIN)

When I unplugged my watch after copying the System_Backdate file it didn’t ask me if I wanted to update the software. Will I need to manually update it.

I posered cycled my watch.  I then tried to copy the System_1440 to my Garmen dirctory.  The watch doesn't have enough space for both.  Doe anyway have a more details on how to do this.

  • Thanks for posting. These are great questions, and ones I'm anxious to get answers to also.

And yes, I  think we all went through the same experience. We had perfectly working watches. Then they stopped working, and we were all left wondering if we had broken the watch or if the hardware went bad or something. I expect you, like others, had to worry about this and waste a lot of time trying to figure out what was going on.

It's not like Garmin did anything to reach out to us users and let us know. Then those of us who eventually through one way or another ended up here on this forum--here we could see that all along it was because Garmin pushed out an unready, improperly vetted update. And when they found out it was defective they did nothing to reach out their users and let them know, nor have they done much to fix the problem. We're basically on our own.

But rest assured, you didn't do anything wrong. Garmin broke the software and this is affecting everyone worldwide apparently.

  • Did you have any luck finding the ones for the solar variant?
