Instinct - 18.10 Public Release Candidate

Hello Instinct customers,

Please read the instructions below to update the software for your Instinct device. We've made some changes to how we deliver beta updates for our customers, so this forum post is now the primary resource for reading the change log notes – they are not available on another webpage. We look forward to your feedback!

18.10 Change Log Notes (changes since 18.01):

Additional improvements to altimeter performance.

New Software versions listed are in red.

System Software: 18.10
BLE/ANT/SNS: 1.60

Instructions for updating software:

Download the .zip folder containing the update HERE
Connect the watch to your computer.
Unzip and copy the included gupdate.gcd file to the Garmin folder on your watch.
Disconnect the watch from the computer and it will prompt you to update software.

In your email please include the software version, and a detailed description of your issue, along with any steps to reproduce. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.

For the record: 18.10 has fixed my issues. The elevation gain accuracy is just about where it was before things went haywire. I'm a trail runner and in the habit of entering the known starting point elevation right before the run. Pressure changes during the run do impact the accuracy but that is a known factor for me.

I have two garmin instinct one with firmware 17.5 and the other with 18.10 and a fenix 6. I did a comparison on a 50km bike ride and I noticed that the altimeter between version 17.50 and 18.10 varies little, about 10- 15 meters, the only thing that changes is the total ascent on the 17.50 firmware gave me 815m while on the 18.10 it gave 870m, while on the fenix 6 it gave 865m and the altitude varies little (about 5-7m), so very similar to the instinct firmware 18.10.

After automatic update to fw 18.10, GPS stopped working. I tried a hard reset and other advice from the Internet, but nothing helped. I left the watch for a few hours at the observation tower with a 360-degree view, but the GPS did not find the position.

Any advice?

guys if i update my watch like this, will i still have guarantee on my watch ??
